001Edna Catherine Burch was born May 4, 1920 in Corning, Iowa, the daughter of August and Mary (Bauer) Romer. She passed away early Wednesday morning, January 4, 2012 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa at the age of 91 years and 8 months.

Edna grew up in Corning, Iowa and attended Corning Schools. On October 19, 1946, she was united in marriage to Roland Eugene Burch in Troy, Kansas. This union was blessed with five children; Leland, Carla, Lonnie, Kimberly, Peggy.

Edna was a homemaker until her children were all raised. She then cleaned houses for more than 35 years. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers; go out to eat, shopping and watching her favorite television shows. But the true love of her life was her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roland Eugene; her son, Leland Burch; two grandchildren, Melina Barker and Eugene Jeffrey; and a brother, Harold Romer.

Survivors include her children, Carla Barker and Carroll Shaffer of Red Oak, Iowa, Lonnie Burch and his wife Connie of Red Oak, Iowa, Kimberly Burch of Clarinda, Iowa, Peggy Van Syoc and her husband Tom of Sidney, Iowa; five grandchildren, Gloria Smith and her husband Dave of Tarkio, Missouri, Nicole Barker and Andy Falk of Red Oak, Iowa, Skylar Barker of Red Oak, Iowa, Craig Lee of Omaha, Nebraska, Heather Lee and Chris Brown of New Market, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Cameron Eshelman, Cataya Barker, Payton Brown and Devin Brown; three step great grandchildren, Sheldon, Madison andChance VanSyoc; many other relatives and friends; and special pets, Daisy Duke, Molly, Buttons and The Cat

Veta Mae Landon was born on December 15, 1915, south of Cumberland, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (McClain) Landon. Veta attended rural schools and later graduated from Cumberland High School as Valedictorian of her class in 1934. She attended summer school at Corning, Iowa, received her teaching certificate, and taught at her home school one year.

On June 21, 1935 she married Arthur Lenz. To this union, seven children were born. Larry, Dale, Joan, Paul, Dennis, David and Donna. They farmed in Holt township in Taylor county and Art did plumbing and well work. The most important event in her life was on March 15, 1964, she accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ , as her Savior. On June 10, 1984 she married Orville Beal of Cumberland.

Veta is survived by her children, Larry Lenz of Atchison, Kansas; Paul and wife Arleeta Lenz of Ankeny; Dennis and wife Kathy Lenz of Atlantic; David Lenz and special friend, Marla of Cumberland; Donna Edwards of Corning. She also leaves 20 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren; one sister; Wilma Freshour of Villisca, and one sister-in-law, Juanita, of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Veta was preceded in death by her parents, husband Art, brothers Ronald, Marvin and Harold. Sister Helen Erickson. Son Dale and daughter Joan. Granddaughters; Cindy and Heidi, Grandson Scott, daughter in law Jean and son in law Steve and husband, Orville

010Bill (Joseph William) Cruth was born in Maryville, Mo to Joseph William Cruth Sr and Vivian Ingram Cruth, Oct 10, 1941. He was their first child.

At age 2 1/2 months the family moved to a ranch near Lyons, Kansas. Bill was 10 when the family moved back to Missouri on a farm near Maryville. He attended country school at Jones Branch. At age 14 the family moved to a farm south of Arkoe, to what became the "Home Place." Bill graduated from Maryville High School in 1959.

He married Patricia Carmichael in May of 1959. To this union Debbie Kay was born.

He married Maureen Greeley of Gravity, Iowa in December of 1964. To this union was born, Donald Allen in 1966 and Billie Joe (Jody) in 1968. He and Maureen lived on a ranch near Pratt, Kansas and returned to the Greeley family farm in 1969.

As for occuaptions, Bill had many. He was a ranch hand, farmer, fence builder, fish farmer, bartender, construction worker and garden produce grower. His last occupation was an outfitter for deer hunters and his favorite. He went o great lengths to see that his "boys" were well taken care of. His clients became his friends. Bill was excellent at public relations.

His passion in life was hunting and fishing. He simply loved hunting wild life or pursuing that elusive fish. (It didn't matter what species.)

Two of the people with whom he had great hunting and fishing adventures were Dave and Lee Little. The tales they told of their adventures (good and bad) were almost as good as being there.

Bill had a wry sense of humor and did love getting a "good one" on some unsuspecting person. He also told a great tale of hunting and fishing episodes. He was fun to be around.

He indeed lived a full life.

He and his daughter Debbie enjoyed camping with Lonnie and Tammy Vanzant.

As Bill's health failed, Tammy Vanzant came up and they undertook many projects such as gardening, canning, painting or simply going for a drive. They aslo involved Tammy's husband Lonnie in their projects.

Bill was preceded in death by his father Joe (Joseph William Sr) Cruth.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Maureen; children, Debbie Sturgis of Hopkins, Mo; Donald of Gravity, Ia; Jody (Matt) Hess of New Market, Ia; his mother, Vivian Cruth of Arkoe, Mo; sister, Sharon Nelson of Concordia, Mo; sister Shirley Cruth of Maryville, Mo. also four grandchilddren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his dog Jake, who was a very faithful and well-loved companion.

In his last days he was cared for by hospice and his family Debbie, Donald and Maureen with the invaluable help from Tammy Vanzant.

Bill's last wishes were carried out and he was cremated and his ashes were scattered on the family farm.

Mary Lou Miller was born on January 1, 1936 near Siam, Iowa. She was the first child born in Taylor County that year, just before a raging snowstorm. As the doctor traveled from Hopkins, farm wives would call the farm to report on his progress but she arrived before the doctor. When he left, Mary Lou's mother, Ione, was alone with her new baby, husband Dean and daughter Wilma for almost 2 months because of the winter. She attended elementary school in Bedford and country school at Dallas Center near New Market. After Bedford High School, she attended Clarinda Junior College and then Northwest Missouri State College. She also enjoyed taking classes at Peru State and the University of Washington, where she traveled for several summers to spend time with classmates from Clarinda. She taught elementary school in Nebraska City for one year, Bedford for three years, and in Lenox for 40 years, retiring in the spring of 2000. During those early teaching years she was working toward her Master's degree in education when her life changed…

Two friends set Mary Lou up on a date with Elvin Miller of Sharpsburg, and on June 17, 1962 they were united in marriage. On that day, she gained three daughters: Jane, Kathy and Rosie. A son, Jim and daughter Jean joined the family a few years later. The family lived on the farm near Sharpsburg, stayed very busy with farming, raising big gardens and enjoying great friends. Many a night was shared with waffles for supper with the Wilson family or heading to Wilma's in Bedford. While Swede and Elvin fished and the kids went to the movies, Mary Lou spent time with Wilma. When Wilma's family came to visit, Nancy always brought her suitcase in case an invitation to stay might come. As the families grew, tacos and volleyball became a big part of celebrations.

In 1993, Mary Lou and Elvin moved into Lenox and Elvin died later that year. She helped her family to move forward when Jim and Jenn were married the next weekend.

Mary Lou prided herself on cooking and having family time. When the girls were young, they once played outside so long they burned the cake needed for an event. She trimmed off the burnt part and took it anyway. She was known for loving to feed people and enjoyed watching people enjoy themselves. She loved her daughter and son in laws and made special dishes for them (even if it was brussel sprouts that only Rick would eat).

Mary Lou enjoyed the Iowa State Fair and spent many years there, first going with her parents with a pocket full of $2.00 bills, then going with her own family and special friends like Ivan and Edythe Holmes, and then the next generation of families with Daren and Julie Long. She enjoyed the experience of helping with the Clearfield Lions Shuttle Bus service and the camaraderie there. Camping was always a highlight of the summer with the Pfanders, Fullers and Wilsons who added joy to those times. She also spent many years watching and helping with the Lenox Rodeo, always recalling how she and Jenola Oxley would wave at each other from opposite sides of the arena while their husbands worked to get the show on.

Mary Lou loved to travel and especially loved to travel with Wilma. They made many trips to the Amish Country in Ohio and then on to North Carolina to visit Jean's family. During these times Mary Lou took thousands of pictures. Her scrapbook collections will give her grandchildren many happy memories of their times together.

After she retired, Mary Lou volunteered at Living History Farms, the Lenox Care Center, the Taylor County Museum and any where else she felt she was needed. In recent years, she made mission trips to Louisiana, first with Tim Maxa and volunteers from Lenox and Sharpsburg, and more recently with special friends from other places. When the opportunity came to go, she started packing her things. She was on a mission trip these last two weeks and passed away in Dulac, Louisiana on February 20, 2012 at age 76 years and one month.

Mary Lou was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford and attended the Sharpsurg Presybterian Church for many years. She enjoyed participating in the CWF Night Circle with the Lenox Christian Church, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Iowa State Education Association and was a lifetime member of the National Education Association. She was a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, and was a long time 4-H member and leader.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ione and Dean Damewood, husband J. Elvin Miller, great grandchildren Jentri and Zayden Christensen, as well as many other beloved friends and family.

She is survived by her children: Jane and Randy Lewis, Kathy and Jim Christensen, Rosie and Rick Bissell, Jim and Jenn Miller, and Jean and Fred Goss. Grandchildren and great grandchildren include: Scott Lewis and son Greyson, Nikki and Scott Johnson, children Mallary, Alec and Lucy; Danelle and Sean Cooney, children Emma and Elliot; John Christensen and special friend Ami Ventiecher, children Erika and Jesse; Mandy and Mark Feick, children Mikel and Megan; Jason and Justi Christensen, children Jenna, Jory and Jaxon; Justin Christensen, children Cloey and Haley; Joshua and Juree Christensen, children Joslyn, Jozie, Jevin, Jazz and Jett; Brandi Henley, children Skyler, Lonna, and Alegra; Chelsi Bissell and special friend Jarrod Balfour; Cauy Miller, Trayce Miller, Blaine Goss and Liberty Goss. Other special family include Wilma Anderson and children: John Anderson; Marcia and Henry Russell, children Tricia, Jennifer, Debbie and Robin and their families; Nancy and Steve Davison and son Connor.

Dona Lorraine Clark was born May 19, 1925, in Troy, Kansas the daughter of Raymond Weinberg and Alta (Eader) Weinberg. She grew up in Troy attending school and playing drums for the high school band and she was a member of the Glee Club. She enjoyed dancing and playing the piano. She was a member of the Christian Church in Troy where she attended regularly.

After graduating from high school with the Class of 1944, Dona worked as a Nurses Aid at a hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri. While there she also played drums for the National Defense Band, which was organized and managed by Lee Gilbert. In 1945, Donna and Lee were united in marriage. The couple moved to Topeka, Kansas where Dona worked as a waitress and Lee as a cook at the Jayhawk Hotel. In 1953, a daughter, Sharon Lee was born and in 1955 a son, Jerry Lee was born. The family also lived in Hiawatha, Kansas, Glenwood, Iowa, Essex, Iowa and Shenandoah, Iowa throughout the years. When Lee became ill with cancer, they moved to Troy so Dona could be near her family. Lee passed away in 1966.

In 1968, Dona was united in marriage to Harold Clark of Stringtown, Iowa. The couple lived in Stringtown until 1997 when Harold retired. They moved into Lenox at that time and Harold passed away in September of 2008.

Dona enjoyed crocheting and made many beautiful Afghans for her family. She also loved music, especially country music which she and Harold enjoyed dancing to. She had a beautiful voice and loved singing hymns. She played piano, and even though she couldn't read music, she could hear a tune once . . . . then play it! Dona was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed having her family over for dinner.

Preceding Dona in death were her parents Raymond and Alta Weinberg; her first husband Lee Gilbert; her second husband Harold Clark; her sisters, Jean Pratt and Virginia Twombly; brothers Earl and Hadley Weinberg; and three siblings who died at infancy.

Joye Mac Welch was born November 12, 1921 at Clarinda, Iowa to McKinley (Mac) Miller and Georgia (Kohler) Miller. She grew up in the Clarinda area graduating from Clarinda High School. Joye and Darrell L. (Deck) Welch were united in marriage at Rockport, Missouri on September 12, 1939. They were blessed with five children: Janice, David, Benjamin, Terri and Debbie.

Joye lived most all of her life in Page County. She and her husband farmed and when he passed away in 1992, Joye continued to live on their farm east of Shambaugh until 1995 when she moved into Shambaugh. Joye later moved to the Eiler House for a short time and then resided at Westridge Care Center since 2008.

Joye was a member of the Shambaugh United Methodist Church and also a 60 year member of the Order of Eastern Star where she held numerous offices. She was a 4-H leader when her children were younger. Joye was active in numerous community clubs and card clubs. Joye was especially interested in and active with the Nodaway Historical Museum. She enjoyed crafts including working with leather to crocheting and quilting. Joye was a people person, having no problem staying busy, always giving of herself to others and helping with community projects and services. She enjoyed the farm and the lifestyle it provided. Her family was most important and she was involved with her kids and their activities. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. No one ever went away hungry. The holidays were a special time for Joye and her family and friends enjoyed all of her special treats.

Joye was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Darrell (Deck) Welch.

Hazel June Stoaks was born June 12, 1913, in Adams County, Iowa the daughter of Frank Miller and Kate (Schafroth) Miller. She grew up attending country school. On May 29, 1929, she was united in marriage to Cleo (Jobe) Stoaks. To this loving union two children were born, Howard and Katherine.

Hazel spent her entire life in Adams County and Taylor County, Iowa. Hazel and Cleo purchased the farm in Adams County in 1936. This is where they raised their family and also chickens for many years. Hazel will be remembered for her passion for gardening and her flowers! She also had a passion for making quilts. She would always have one set up in her living room while she worked on it and whoever was around at the time, would have to help her turn it so she could reach to finish her sewing. We would not even attempt to guess how many pairs of jeans she patched over the years! Hazel also had a love for cooking, you could always count on her to have some cookies to snack on and her homemade noodles and angel food cake were something you could always expect to enjoy at family dinners! Hazel's home was always "the gathering place" for family to stay and visit whether from near or far. She was a 50+ year member of the Eastern Star and had been Worthy Matron. She was also a 50+ year member of the Lenox Christian Church. She had been a member of the Neighborhood Club and at one time they had over 20 members. She had helped with many activities within these organizations.

Loretta Kay (Miller) Howard was born July 21, 1962, the daughter of Donald S. Miller and Gloria Ann (Perez) Miller. Lori grew up in Des Moines attending and graduating from the Southeast Polk High School with the Class of 1980. One of Lori's best childhood memories was enjoying family trips to Florida to visit their family. In 1984, Lori entered into marriage with Rick Howard. Three children were born to bless their lives, Troy Richard, Holly Ann and William Mitchell. Lori raised her family in Des Moines until 1995 when she moved to the Lenox area. Lori worked hard to support her children. She was employed at the Clearview Nursing Home and the Lenox Care Center. Later in life, Lori attended Southwestern Community College in Creston and graduated with her Associate of Arts Degree. She wanted to be a psychologist so she could continue helping people.

Lori was an open-hearted, accepting person. She was always full of love. She would help anyone that needed it, even if she didn't have much herself. She was known for her cooking and she loved having big meals with her family and friends gathered around the table. Lori took in many of her sons' and daughter's friends and loved them . . . always considering them her 'kids'. In her spare time, Lori loved playing cards, board games and poker. She was an active member of the Sharpsburg Presbyterian Church for many years teaching bible school. She was a song writer and used to sing her songs in church. Many times she got her kids to sing with her, even if they really did not want to! What she was most proud of in her life were her grandchildren. Known as "Mima" she was always ready and waiting with big hugs and kisses for them all, cherishing every day she had with them.

025Dorothy Maye (Carpenter) Burch was born on August 29, 1924 in Elmo, Missouri, the daughter of Dana O. and Pearl (Goodwin) Carpenter. Dorothy entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah.

Dorothy's early years were spent in the Elmo community, where she graduated from high school. On January 11, 1944 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Burch in Hiawatha, Kansas. The couple made their home in Shenandoah, following their marriage.

During her working years, Dorothy was employed by Henry Fields Nursery and later at Eaton Corporation, where she retired from. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church. Some of her interests included reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing card games, attending family outings, reading the Bible, and being involved with church activities. Dorothy had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making conversations with those she met.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings Charley, Byron, Galen, Landis, an infant brother, Wilma, Velma, Lois and Minnie Lee.

026JoAnn (Gray) Collins was born on March 11, 1950 in Fayette, Missouri, the daughter of Richard Jewel and Marion Alice (Collins) Gray, Sr. JoAnn entered into eternal peace on Sunday afternoon, April 1, 2012 following a brave battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving and caring family.

JoAnn's early years were spent in Roanoke, Missouri. The family later moved to Omaha, Nebraska. JoAnn graduated from South High School with the Class of 1968. She later moved to Shenandoah.

During her working years she was employed by Eaton Corporation in Shenandoah, until her retirement in 2005. She was active in the Relay for Life events. Some of her passions included spending time with her children and grandchildren, playing BINGO, going to the casino, reading, and fishing.

027Betty June Meyers, age 92, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Shenandoah, Iowa, passed away April 4, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Betty was born June 27, 1919 in Shenandoah, Iowa to the late Clarence and Ruth (Van Kirk) Cass.

Betty graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1937. Betty married Wayne M. Meyers on November 11, 1939 in Grand Island, Nebraska. Betty was a housewife, raising two children Bill and Marci. Through the years Betty and Wayne have call many places home. They have lived in Shenandoah, IA, McAllen, TX, Mesa, AZ and Council Bluffs, IA. They also had a summer home in Okoboji.

Betty was very active; she was a member of Bridge Club, Shenandoah Booster Club, Band Mothers, and United Methodist Women and taught Sunday school at First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, golf, going to church, cooking and sewing.

Preceding Betty in death are her son Bill Meyers, parents, sisters: Maxine Hartman and Wilma (Bill) Piller.

028Bernice passed away on April 1, 2012 at the Shenandoah Medical Center.

Bernice Irene (Rice) Nye was born on December 23, 1911 in Lebanon, Kansas. She died at home on April 1, 2012. Bernice was 100 years old. She was the daughter of Sidney Charles Rice and Della Hester (Upp) Rice, and the oldest of eleven brothers and sisters.

Bernice spent her childhood in Lebanon, Kansas. She graduated from the Lebanon High School in 1932. After high school, Bernice worked as a housekeeper for a short time before moving to Shenandoah, Iowa to help her aunt, Helen Upp, who was about to have a baby. She also worked as a housekeeper for a local doctor.

While living in Shenandoah, Bernice met Norvin Nye. They were married on June 28, 1939 in Rock Port, Missouri and moved to a farm near Shenandoah. Bernice and Norvin spent most of their married life on the Nye Family farm, a Century Farm, in rural Page County. Bernice took great pride in her work as a homemaker. Their daughter, Juneil Kay (Nye) Gibson was born on March 8, 1948.

Bernice was active in local clubs, including the Beacon Club and the Domestic Science (DS) Club. She was a 4-H leader, and helped her daughter and granddaughters with many 4-H projects over the years. Bernice was active in the Shenandoah Methodist Church, and cared for children in the church nursery. She had several hobbies, including stamp collecting, crocheting, sewing, cooking, gardening, and card making. Her favorite activity was spending time with family.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Norvin Nye, who died in 1999, her parents, and siblings Thelma Rice Dilley, Donna Rice Fleiger, Dorothy Rice Layland, Eli Rice, Richard Rice, Pauline Rice, and Margaret Rice.

Bernice is survived by her daughter, Juneil Gibson and her husband Roger who live in a home they recently built on the Nye Family farm. Bernice is also survived by two granddaughters; Kerry Jewell Agnitsch, and her husband Brian of Ames, IA, and Kristi Mixdorf of Ankeny; five great grandchildren, including Jake and Brayden Agnitsch of Ames, Iowa and Andrew, Natalie, and Jay Mixdorf of Ankeny, Iowa; and three sisters, including Kathleen Rice Steiner of Manhattan, Kansas, Virginia Sikorski of Wichita, Kansas, and Betty Voboril of Esbon, Kansas

029Wayne Carl Almquist was born on June 18, 1919 in Essex, Iowa, the son of Carl Luther and Nora Matilda (Peterson) Almquist. Wayne entered into the arms of his Lord on March 27, 2012 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 92 years.

Wayne grew up on a farm southeast of Essex. He graduated from Essex High School with the Class of 1936. On November 28, 1941 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Nadine Anderson. The couple resided on a farm east of Essex where they raised their family.

During his working years Wayne farmed until his health required a change and it was then that he started working for a Home Oil Company in Shenandoah doing rural deliveries. In 1950 he began his own company and had one of the first convenience stores east of Essex. The company name was changed to Almquist Gas Company in 1963 when he moved into Essex.

Wayne was baptized and confirmed in the St. John's Lutheran Church where he was an active member. He served as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, served several terms on the church council and on various committees as needed. He was a member of the Essex Commercial Club, was active in Saddle Club in both Shenandoah and Essex, and the Essex Golf Club.

Wayne enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an avid sports fan. He rarely missed an Essex High School ball game of any sport. He loved playing softball and continued to pitch until the age of 61 years. He also was an avid runner and ran his last race at the age of 70, but continued biking as his means of exercise. At the age of 65, he rode across Iowa on RAGBRAI. What at remarkable man!

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Rozanne Renander; sons-in-law Jon Malloy and Craig Hesson; brothers Howard Almquist and John Almquist; and sister Donna Jean Rhodes.

030Marilynn Taylor Gee was born on April 11, 1923 in Shields, TX, the daughter of Eugene and Jamie Clyde (Sheffield) Taylor. Lynn entered into the arms of her Lord on Saturday, March 24, 2012 in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Lynn grew up with 6 siblings in "The Valley" of Texas. She graduated from high school following the completion of the 11th grade. She then attended Durham Business School in Austin in 1940.
It was her beloved Aunt Maddie who introduced her to John Gee, who was stationed at Moore Field Air Force Base. The couple was united in marriage on January 18, 1946. In an effort to assist the war effort, Lynn and her friend Dorothy traveled to Washington State to work on a "top secret" job. She later found out her work would be related to the Atomic Bomb! After the war, She and John returned to Iowa where they resided on a farm west of Shenandoah. They later moved into town to their home on Clarinda Avenue.
Lynn's first job was as a secretary in Austin, Texas. After her marriage to John she was a stay at home mom, caring for her boys and husband. Lynn later worked for Elm Heights Care Center as its' activities coordinator, retiring after 18 years of service. After retirement she volunteered countless hours giving back to her community at Meals on Wheels and Hospice.
Lynn thoroughly enjoyed sharing her love of family and traveling all over to see them. She especially enjoyed returning home to "The Valley" and attending the Bluegrass festivals in Arkansas. While at home she was passionate about sharing her gifts of sewing, gardening, walking and being healthy. She had a very strong faith and was very active in her church through Presbyterian Woman. She also enjoyed being part of PEO, Chapter JA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John W. Gee; son Greg J. Gee; and siblings Galvond, Jack, Dorothy and Vida Mae.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Gary T. Gee and wife Patti of Shenandoah and Gil N. Regina Margaret (Youngberg) Kirby was born on January 19, 1917 in Essex, Iowa, the daughter of Eddie Emmanuel and Matilda Christina (Carlson) Youngberg. Regina entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah.

Regina grew up in the rural Essex area. She was baptized and confirmed at the Fremont Evangelical Lutheran Church at Nyman. She attended country school, Essex High School and later Red Oak High School, where she graduated with the Class of 1934. She continued her education at a junior college.

On Valentines Day of 1942 she was united in marriage to Wayne Kirby in Omaha, Nebraska. This union was blessed with the birth of five children; Eldon, Douglas, Kathleen, Pamela and Beth.

Regina was a dedicated wife and mother. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Having coffee with her friends was also a highlight of her day. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex, St. John's Quilters and the Essex American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne, on March 24, 2006; son, Douglas Gene Kirby on April 4, 1952; and a brother, Donald Youngberg.

032Wade Ugene Strange, age 42, passed away March 20, 2012 at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Wade was born March 25, 1969 in Iowa City, Iowa to Russell Strange and Wanitta Larson. He spent most of his life in the Blanchard area and graduated from South Page High School in 1987.

Wade was currently working for Golden Living Nursing Home in Nebraska City and had worked for Gardenview Care Center in Shenandoah.

Wade enjoyed spending time with family and friends, listening to music, doing woodworking, going fishing, and going out driving around. He also enjoyed watching ghost stories shows on T.V.

Wade was preceded in death by his aunt Jeanitta Brownfield and Grandmother Maxine Larson.

Wade will be sadly missed by his mother Wanitta Pratt of Blanchard, brother Gerald Strange of Blanchard, niece Whitney Vannausdle and husband Bryan and their children Damion and Bailey of Villisca, special friend Darlynn Johnson and her daughter Lisa and her daughter Adrianna, daughter Jessica Strange of Riverton, son Anthony Strange of Newton, Iowa, grandchildren; Lilly and Bristal, father Russell Strange and wife Ruby of Shenandoah, brothers; Keylon Strange and his girlfriend Rebecca Stone of Omaha, Jeremiah Strange and fiancé Natosha Smith of Shenandoah, and Wade's favorite dog Buba, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

033Marvin Leroy Cox, was born on January 19, 1924 on the family farm three miles west of Northboro, Iowa, the son of John M. and Mary Willard (Bates) Cox. Marvin entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at his home in rural Northboro.

On June 6, 1954, Marvin was married to Lorane Rowe at the Assembly of God Church. To this union two children were born; Roger Dale born November 26, 1955 and Arlene Gale born November 17, 1958.

Marvin spent his entire life on his farm and working the ground, for as long as his health permitted him to.

Marvin spent his leisure time playing his guitar and singing. He attended the Church of the Nazarene most of his married life.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Laverne and Willard Cox and two sisters, Velma Keep and Cleo Phelps.

034David Lee Franks, son of Richard Lee and Edna Louise (Maher) Franks, was born on May 15, 1948, in Shenandoah, Iowa. He passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 63.

He attended the Essex Community Schools, graduating from Essex High School with the Class of 1966. Dave then attended Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda where received his Associate's Degree.

On April 4, 1970, Dave was united in marriage to Peggy Ann Royer, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex. They were blessed with two children, Gregory David, 36, and Heidi Marie, 34. They lived in the Essex community all these years.

Dave worked at Farmaster Corp for three years before going to work at Eaton Corporation. He retired after 31 years with Eaton's, in 2003, with a perfect attendance record. Following his retirement he enjoyed spending time fishing, golfing, collecting large rocks and most of all, enjoying time with his family and friends.

Preceding Dave in death were his parents; brother, Martin Franks of Essex; brother-in-law, Verner Dean Isaacson of Red Oak; and grandson, Zachary David Mohatt (three months old).

035Jo Ellen (King) Shane was born on November 13, 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska the daughter of Donald Joseph and Mary Ellen (Hughes) King. Jo Ellen entered into eternal peace on March 19, 2012 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Jo Ellen's early years were spent in the community of Imogene where she attended school at St. Patrick School. Jo Ellen graduated with the Class of 1961. She was united in marriage to Tom Shane in 1962 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. This union was blessed with five children; Michael, Lisa, Tim, Jim and Shelley.

During her working years Jo Ellen was employed by Henry Fields Nursery, the Tall Corn Motel, where she worked in the kitchen and the Shenandoah Medical Center, where she also worked in the kitchen. She retired in 2007. Jo Ellen was a quiet, sweet, very accepting, forgiving and loving lady who never had an enemy.

Some of her interests included gardening and raising her children. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and participated in the Relay for Life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant grandchild.
