Monroe County Rural Route Directory

Rural Routes No. 1 and 2 started Monday, September 1. W. b. Goodnight carries on route No. 1 and Clarence Curtright on Route No. 2. Crawford Bros. ordered the boxes for the patrons but for some cause the boxes did not arrive in time to be put up before the route started, so the carriers will have to deliver the mail the best they can until the boxes arrive. The carriers carry stamps, postals, envelopes, etc., registered letters given, receipts for money orders—in fact are a small post office on wheels. Patrons will bear in mind that all letters posted on rural routes require a two cent stamp if addressed to another patron or elsewhere. The following is a list of boxes ordered so far on No. 1. More will be added from time to time.

All boxes have the names of patrons painted on them, making a veritable rural directory, so that candidate will not have to ask Mr. Jones how he spells his name before he leaves to know whom he has been talking to.
