William J. McGhee  He was married to Eliza Jane (Carter) of Dade County in 1850. On October the 4th, 1862, he enlisted in Co. K, 8th Mo. Vol. Cav. in Springfield. He later (circa 1872) moved to Key, Arkansas (near Rogers) and died there on January 3, 1892 and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery (originally buried in "Walker's Burying Ground" but was moved when Beaver Lake was created). Charles Wesley Hefner, was a Member of the First Missouri Engineers, Company B, and served durring the Civil War. He was from Paris Illinois, and is burried in Rudy Cemetary, Edgar Co. Illinois.  Lisa Cunningham


Philip Owens served in Company B of the First Missouri Calvary from August 1861 until 1865.  He was a resident of Carlinville, Illinois (Macoupin County), however, and returned there after his discharge.  He had recently immigrated from Ireland when he enlisted. STEVEN E. BARKER, He was born in Grant co. Ky. in Aug. 8th 1846. Died   Aug. 15th 1924. Enlisted  28th of March 1864 at Hannibal, Mo.into the 21st   Mo. Infentry Reg. Co. Harvey Crawford, born 1840, Howard County, Missouri, Died, January 22, 1865, Corinth, Mississippi, and is buried in the National Cemetery, Corinth, Mississippi along with several other prisoner of war soldiers from the 44th Missouri.

He burned to death, with several other prisoners, in a Confederate hospital in Corinth, Mississippi on January 22, 1865. His name is often misspelled "Crofford".

I would be happy to share any of my information with anyone interested in the 44th Missouri Regiment. I still have lots of holes that need to be filled with names from this regiment.

I was fascinated to see the Bandon, OR burials listed.  The little cemetary overlooks the ocean and is beautiful.  I buried my parents there a few years back, and I was also surprised at the number of CW vets buried there. Joseph Buntin is buried in the National Cemetary in Nashville. He was with the 23rd MO. Co. G and he hailed from Harrison County MO. I don't know his date or cause of death.  My ancestor,


James Louis Devinney, born July 11, 1845 in Louisville, Jefferson County Ky.  Enlisted in Company F, 3rd Battalion, Missouri Calvary in Springfield Missouri on 24 December 1861. He served the entire war with the 3rd, and the 1st and 3rd Battalion Calvery,dismounted and combined. Was wounded three times.  Was surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama after the battle of Fort Blakeley Alabama, imprisoned at Ship Island, Mississippi, paroled at Jackson, Mississippi. He was in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1870.  He married Almyra Jane Forsyth and had six children. He died on August 19, 1915, in Ripley, Lauderdale County, Tennessee, and is buried in Ripley, cemetery name is unknown to me.  Joseph S. DeVinney   241 H St. #4, Chula Vista, Ca.

Ragan was born in Illinois, but his family had settled in Phelps Co., Missouri around 1811.  He was a farmer in Phelps Co., MO. when he enlisted in the 8th Missouri Infantry (Mitchell's), serving in Company D.  He died January 3, 1891.  He is buried in Sonora Cemetary in Fairlee, Hunt County, Texas. William Alexander Willis, fought in the C.W. on confederate side.  Missouri Infantry, 10th regiment, company H, [consolidated]  Missouri Infantry Confederate States Army.  He enlisted June 2, 1862, was captured at Helena Ark. July 4 1863, paroled and forwared to City Point, Virginia, surrendered May 26, 1865 and paroled at Camp Allen, Louisiana, June 8, 1865, to Miller Co. Missouri.  He was born  Oct. 4, 1836 and died Feb. 21, 1922, in Collin Co. Texas, Bethlahem Cemetery, Collin Co. Tx. glenda garner


William C. Simmons, was born 1840, in Springfield Mo. Greene Co.  Enlisted at Paris Tx. in Company H, 9th Texas Cavalry, Ross' Brigade as a confederate.  He served the entire war in as many as 100 battles and skirmishes, slightly wounded 3 times.  He died around 1917 in Hopkins Co., Commerce Texas. glenda garner

 Ardilles (A A) Adams was born August 1828 in OH and died 1/11/1909 in Grant Co WI. He served as a private in the 4th MO company M and the 5th MO company G. I am not sure but I believe that he is buried in Fennimore WI. I know for sure that he is burried in Grant Co WI. I understand that he has a government headstone which lists the 4th MO co.
