Gilbert Andrews, Born July 8, 1826, Died March 26, 1903, Buried in Earney Cemetery, near 
Cherryville, Crawford County, Missouri
 
September 20, 1861;  Gilbert enlisted as a Private into Capitan Abraham Gray's Company "C" 
Phelps' Regiment of the Missouri Volunteers.  He was discharged on April 8, 1862 at Springfield, 
Missouri.  He was born in Catawba County, North Carolina, was 33 years old, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 
ruddy complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a farmer. Phelp's 
Regiment saw action at Sugar Creek and Bentonville, February 17, 1862 and Pea Ridge Arkansas 
March 6-8, 1862. Mountain Grove on March 9, 1862. The regiment lost 2 Officers and 23 enlisted 
men killed and 3 Officers and 91 Enlisted men by disease. Total 119.
