Josiah T. Jarman ( 1836-1916) served in the Osage Co. Home Guard the first three months of the war. My ggrandfather    Harold L. Hicks

James Clayborn Box  Buried Memphis, TN b. 30 Aug. 1839, d. 18 March 1923  Served from 1862-1865 with Company E, 14th Regiment of the Missouri Cavalry and in Company A, 8th Regiment of the Missouri Cavalry. Submitted by Donna Ketchum Bond

George Washington Box.  Buried in Seneca, MO. b. 3 July, 1843, d. 21 Aug. 1933.  Enlisted 28 Jan. 1864, in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri, and served in Company A of the 8th Regiment, Missouri State Militia and in Company E of the 14th Regiment, Missouri State Militia.  George was discharged from this unit in February of 1864, having joined Company K, 12th Regiment, Missouri Cavalry.  He was discharged from the Cavalry 9 April, 1866, in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Submitted by Donna Ketchum Bond

William Riley Box.  Buried Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Polk Co., MO b. 28 July, 1847, d. 21 Feb. 1924.  William joined the ranks of those fighting in the Civil War when he was only sixteen years old.  Following in the footsteps of his two older brothers, William joined the U. S. Army, enlisting as a private in Company K, 12th Regiment, Missouri Cavalry.  He enlisted in Ozark, Christian County, Missouri, on 18 February, 1864, just twenty-one days after his brother, George Washington, had enlisted in the same company and regiment.  On 7 April of the same year, their brother, Josiah, likewise joined the same company and regiment.  Thus, in the late spring of 1864, with James Clayborn having enlisted in 1862, Daniel R. Box had four sons serving in the Union forces of the Civil War. Submitted by Donna Ketchum Bond

Josiah Box b. 23 July, 1841, d. 15 May, 1864 On 7 April 1864, two years to the day after his brother James enlisted to serve three years in the Army.  Josiah enlisted in St. Louis, Missouri, as a Private in Missouri Cavalry Volunteers, Company K, 12th Regiment.  Sadly, death came to Josiah just weeks after enlisting in the Army.  On the 15th of May, 1864, Josiah died of small pox.  He died at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri.  His brief military record states that all of his clothing and personal belongings were ordered to be burned.  In an effort to locate his burial place, it was learned that many military men were buried on "Small Pox Island" in the Mississippi River.  This island began washing away, especially during flooding, and those buried there were moved to the Jefferson Barracks Cemetery.  Many grave markers were destroyed or lost, making it impossible to properly identify the remains as they were moved to this new location.  Consequently, most of the graves were marked "unknown". Some graves washed away at flood time and were never recovered.  It is not known if Josiah’s remains were moved to Jefferson Barracks or were lost to the Mississippi River.  All four of the above are sons of Daniel R. Box (1821-1909 & his first wife, Parthenia McGee Box.  At one time, he had four sons all serving in the Civil War at the same time. Submitted by Donna Ketchum Bond, a gg granddaughter of  Daniel R. Box.

David D. Stockton, enlisted in Army 18 Dec 1861 for duration of war at Jefferson City, MO as the Captain of Stockton's Company, Mounted Missouri State Militia.  His unit was later changed to Company A, 8th Regiment of the Missouri State Militia Cavaly.  He was sent to Pittsburg, KS in Feb 1862 to afford protection to companies being recruited for state service.  Between Mar 20 and Mar 26, 1862, he fought in the skirmish outside Humansville, MO.  He was severely wounded on the 25th by a rifle ball just below the knee, which broke his leg.  He was first sent home to recover, then to Jefferson City.  On 24 Dec 1862 he was assigned duty as the Provost Marshall, but due to continued problems with his leg, was force to resign his commission on 25 Apr 1863.  He was mustered out of the Army officially 25 Jan 1865.  In 1864 he served a term in the Missouri State Legislature.  He was born 30 Jul 1807 in Wayne County, Kentucky and died 4 Oct 1872 in Halltown in Lawrence County, Missouri, supposedly from the lingering effects of the wound he received at Humansville.  He married Mary Polly Hall 28 May 1827 in Rhea County, Tennessee.  LLOYD CUNNINGHAM
