Civil War Veterans
USA Soldier

Napoleon PHARISS. He is buried at Maple Park Cemetery on Elliott Ave., Aurora, MO
b. 12Dec1846 d. 3Dec1930.  His parents would not give their permission for him to join after the battle at Wilson's Creek.  He was only 16, so he ran away and joined anyway.  He joined the Union Army, Co. H 16th Reg., MO Vol. Cav.  When he mustered out at the end of the war the army had his last name spelled, PHARRESS, this was wrong.  Napoleon thought if he tried to correct the spelling, it could cause him to lose his pension.  The spelling followed him to his grave.  It is spelled the army way on his stone.
Napoleon is my great-grandfather. Thank you, Don McNeill, Springfield, MO

I came across a list that my grandmother had of people buried in the DUNKLE CEMETERY, near Lawrenceburg.  One of the "occupants" is an E.T. BUFFINGTON and the only inscription on his headstone is that he served in Co. G. 14TH Missouri State Militia...no birth or death date listed.  Beside him is SUSAN BUFFINGTON, Feb. 22, 1830-Nov. 26, 1874.  I just thought I would send Mr. Buffington's name for you to post...there must be someone out there who would like to know where he's buried.   Thanks, Jeanne Misleh
