Buchanan Cemetery Information
Several of the descendants of those buried in the Buchanan Cemetery are interested in restoring the cemetery.  A few years ago my husband and I went to the cemetery and Paul Hoover showed us the graves of my relatives buried there.  Of course I am kin to probably everyone in it.  According to the list for Buchanan listed on the Dade website USGenWebMissouri in the Civil War Dade County Veteran's there are the following buried there:
Fayette Cantrell, John Cantrell, Wilse Cantrell, David J.Casada, John C. Casada, ALEC DAVIS, Benj. Thomason. I have the war records for David J. Casada. He enlisted for  'Chereokee Indian Removal' (added to the original papers) but I think it was probably the Cherokees who had gone to the Okefenokee Swamp he enlisted for "because he knew them" in 1836  Jul and was discharged Oct the same year.  The Cherokee Indian removal occurred 1837-1838. Do you know anything about the war service of ALEC DAVIS? This is the first time I have seen him listed.  He is also my grandfather and the Cantrell's and Thomason listed above were cousins by marriage. I want to order new military grave markers for all of them in a project we hope can be completed by 2001-it takes a year to get the military markers which are free but I have to furnish the proofs for all of them-anyone can order them but not without the proofs.  This project is ambitious but a few of us can make a difference. Any information you can help me with would be appreciated.   I live in a nearby state and another cousin I have not yet met living in MO that is interested in the restoration can go more often than some of the other's, so we will be the ones to do the work, probably.  I will order the stones and we will probably set them too for all those above that I can get records of proof for.  We may also do markers for some of the other cemeteries through other cousins who are interested in our Buchanan project. We are just in the planning stages for any of it right now. Ambitious, but necessary due to the present condition of this old historic cemetery.Thank you.
