I am seeking information on two Civil War soldiers in a Macon County, MO unit.

Their names are Capt. William H. LEWIS, and Capt. Peter THOMPSON, and they served in the 42nd MO Volunteers (US). Anyone who can tell me how these men died post-war, or know of any vets of the 42nd who were murdered after the war, will be greatly appreciated.
Legend says that my ancestor's son tracked down each living vet of Company A, 42nd MO Volunteers, after the war and bushwacked them all. Fact or fiction?
Were Capt's Lewis and Thompson murdered after the war? Was your ancestor in Co. A, 42nd MO? Was he MURDERED? If so, I would like to hear from you!!!
Click on my name above or I can be reached by telephone at: (618) 746-4248.

I descend from Mary Taylor (née HEMENWAY) BARKER born 23 February 1816 in Barre, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
By late 1880 she was living in Belton, Cass Co., Missouri. She died there sometime in 1892, and was interred in a La Plata cemetary (unknown name) a "pink marble shaft proclaims her presence."
Her grandson's (Wilbur James SAMPSON) wife (née Mary Katherine SPEAS) was there in La Plata on 31 December 1889, giving birth to Royce Hironimus Sampson.
I am very interested in any information regarding Barkers, Hemenways, or Sampsons in Macon Co. between 1852 and 1892?
In which La Plata cemetary is Mary Taylor Barker interred?
Thank you in advance.

Researching my grandparents, Alex GARRISON and Ann HARRISON GARRISON.
They both lived in or near Sue City, Macon Co., MO.
Ann and Alex had two sons, Lloyd and John.
Ann died shortly after John was born.
I have acquired unconfirmed information that my grandfather then married Annie Ferguson and I found a grave of a child born to them.
Ann's mother Louisa C. Harrison reared the two boys, and for some reason the Macon Co. Court changed their last name to her name.
I know very little of Alex from that time up until now.
I have been told my grandfather died in the eighties.
Alex father was a prominent Dr. of that community for many years.
Confusion exists regarding which physician, Benjamin or Frank Garrison, was his father as both practised in that period in Sue City, Mo.
I would very much like to find out more about him. If he ever remarried, if so, to whom, and if they had a family.
I hope you can help me to learn more about him. Sincerely,
Leta Ruth Lane

Dan Dean Sun Apr 5 1998
I have been looking into the DEAN genealogy for a while now and have gotten stumped with Joseph DEAN and Mary Ann(e) (BELCHER) DEAN who lived in Macon or thereabouts.
Joseph DEAN was born in Ohio in 1849 and died in Joplin. Mary Anne BELCHER was born in 1850 in Virginia, both by census records.
Some land records show Abraham (or Abram) DEAN owning property adjoining Joseph's and Mary's, but the details are sketchy and I am unable to follow up on Abraham.
The census records show that they lived in Macon County.
Here is the genealogy:

My father: Prentice Walter DEAN b. 15 May 1928/Kansas City, MO d. 1978/Seattle, WA
My Grandfather: Prentice Walter DEAN b.9 Nov 1898/Macon, MO d. 23 Oct 1949/Seattle, WA
My GGF: Albert DEAN b. 27 Dec 1874/Keota, MO d. 31 Oct 1901/Joplin, MO
My GGGF: Joseph DEAN b. 1849/Ohio d. ???/Joplin, MO
My GGGM: Mary Ann(e) Belcher b. 1850/VA d. ???

If you could shed a glimmer of light on this, I would be very happy.
Do you have any info about these people that would help me connect my part of the DEAN family to one of the main DEAN lines?
Thanks, Dan Prentice DEAN, 206-232-6191, 206-232-5310 fax

Researching my line from GG Grandfather Daniel S. BARROW born 1799, Ky.
Both Daniel and his brother Nathan BARROW married GILSTRAP sisters.
Daniel married GG Grandmother, Mary (Polly) and Nathan married Welthy.
The father of the BARROW brothers was Daniel BARROW b 1758.
The parents of the GILSTRAP sisters were my GGG Grandfather, Bright GILSTRAP b abt 1776 probably in N.C. He married Selah MUMFORD b abt 1777 also probably in N.C.

My G Grandfather in the BARROW line was George West BARROW b 1831.
He had 2 families one with Mary CHAFFIN (my line) and his 2nd wife Rosa RANDALL.

Nathan BARROW was a judge in Macon before 1865. He was a Southerner at heart and helped a young man join the Confederate Army. He was arrested by Federals, tried for treason, convicted and sent to Alton Prison.

Very interested in Nathan and his time in Alton Prison and any records for that time.
I would like to have any one with info to contact me. I have lots of info to share on both lines.
Any one out there with information to share would be great.

Sidney and Mary Ann JONES WALLACE, both born in NY, came to New Cambria, MO late 1860's or 1870's.

Any information on any of the above would be very much appreciated.

My grandfather, Tom CLOYD (Wiley Thompson CLOYD), owned and operated "Tom's Place" cafe in Macon on Burke Street from about 1911 to 1946. He came from Chariton County, marrying my grandmother, Mildred SHOEMAKER and moving to Macon.
They had one son, my father, Herbert CLOYD, born in 1913. Dad fathered 9 children, four were born (me, Don, Dale, and Jimmy) in Macon, before moving to Dayton, Ohio in 1942. I am looking for the family of Rachel C. ATWELL,
who married Francis M. RHODES in 1863.
She was born in Green CO KY in 1843. I think some of her family stayed in Macon CO.
Rachel C. ATWELL died in 1874 and is buried in Cash cemetery in Russell twp.
I think her father and mother were Ignatious and Rachel ATWELL, but not sure.
I think her older sister was Sarah ATWELL SUMMERS who is buried in New Salem cemetery by Excello, MO.
I would appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks,

Am seeking information or contact with any descendents of Taylor and Nancy Belle (SPEARS) MYERS
who resided in Macon Co., Drake Twp. in 1900 - 1910.
Taylor must have died prior to the 1910 census, as he is not listed and Nancy B. is listed as a widow.
Children include:
1. Frederick, born ca 1890;
2. Dora born ca 1891;
3. Mary E. born ca 1892;
4. Philipa R. born ca 1894;
5. Verney H. born ca 1896;
6. Herney O. born can 1897;
7. Fanny born ca 1898.

According to the 1900 census (Macon Co, Drake Twp) Taylor and Nancy B. Myers had a mortgaged farm, but I have not been able to verify this.
Any information on this family would be deeply appreciated. Would also share any info I have w/others.
Thank you.
