This is the edited minutes of the Historical Society that appeared in the newspaper.

Historical Society Meets

The Macon County Historical Society met recently at the Apple Basket restaurant with George Morganweck presiding. There were 15 members and one guest present. Prior to the dinner the invocation was given by the President.

After the dinner the President called the meeting to order with the pledge of allegience to the flag, the reading of the prior meeting minutes and the Treasurer's Report.

He then reported on the progress of the cemetery project. He has been contacted by interested individuals county wide about abandoned cemeteries, as well as, family cemeteries and been marking their locations on the Macon County plat map. He said he plans to contact Concerned Citizens Group about a cemetery near Ardmore which is overgrown with brush.

Historical Society members are also involved and if anyone knows of "Unmarked Cemeteries", they would appreciate it if you would contact them as this is a portion of the history of Macon County.

On Aug 13 at 2:00PM the Historical Society plans to honor the late Josephine Morrow with a picture and plaque that will be placed in the genealogy room of the Macon Public Library. The public is welcome to attend.

Judge and Mrs. Paul Parkinson were thanked for delivered the equipment for the new Probate Records room in the former Episcople Church Building. The room will be opened to the public as soon as the records can be filed and catalogued.

Mary McIntosh from the State Archives has been in the Macon to look over the probate records, but was unable to do so until they are put in the new boxes. If her schedule permits, she will be the guest speaker at the next meeting.

Donna Lester donated a folder listing the Genealogy Holdings of the La Plata Public Library. The folder will be in the genealogy room of the Macon Public Library.

The meeting was adjourned with the next meeting to be Aug 4, at 6:00PM at the Apple Basket restaurant.
