Meetings and Activities
April 7, 2005
This is the minutes of the Historical Society that appeared in the newspaper.
NEW PROJECTS
Historical Society MeetsThe Macon County Historical Society met at a local restaurant with President George Morgenweck presiding. There were 12 members present. Prior to the dinner the invocation was given by the President.
Since this was considered a working meeting, there was no guest speaker.
A number of items were brought up for discussion. Plans are being made for
the Probate records which were copied a number of years ago by Salt Lake
City, to be made avaiable to the public. A room has been rented in the former
Episcopal Church where the records will be on display. A copying machine
will be available for use. The room will be closed, but telephone numbers
will be posted for anyone who wants to reseach the records, and a member
of the Historical Society will come to open the door. Another project discussed is locating and copying the cemeteries in the county. There are a number of family plots and abandonded cemeteries which the Historical Society would like to locate. They are asking people in the county to notify members and help with this project. A memorial plaque and picture of Jo Morrow will be placed in the library genealogy room in her honor. Jo was a past president of the Historical Society and helped many familes with research. Bill Franke reported that he and friends are working on a pictorial history of Macon and Macon Co. using old photographs. They are planning to publish a book which will be available for sale to the public. Donna Lester reported there will be a meeting of the Sesquisentennial Committee at the City Council Chambers on April 14, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. to work on plans for the coming sesquisentennial of the City of Macon. The meeting was adjourned with the next meeting to be held on June 2, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. at the Apple Basket.
