John E. RICHARDS, 71, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thomas HEPPLE/HEAPLE (date?). He raised a large family of exceptionally bright children, two of whom, John B. and W.B., are ministers. Robert is state mine inspector, and George, district president of the miner's union for several years. There are also the daughters, Mrs. Thomas Heaple and Mrs. Thomas Thirlway. Funeral at Saints Chapel. All his children live in Bevier with the exception of Rev. John B. Richards of Jamesport, Mo.

He was a spritualist and apparently he arranged his own funeral before he

died.  He was a clog dancer and during the war was unable to join up as

due to his webbed hands as he didn't have a trigger finger to use a gun.

So he became an air raid warden and worked in the munitions factory.  He

was blond with blue eyes as were all his children.

Minnie was the daughter of Emma Buddle Beethams first marriage (5 Oct 1880 Holy Trinity Church Sunderland) John Beetham who died.  She was treated as a daughter by Thomas Hutchinson after his marriage to her widowed mother. She brought up her younger stepbrothers and sisters after their parents early death.  She married William Storey a solicitor but they had no children.  After he died in 1947 she went to live with Ada Erskine and then turned up one day on Emma's doorstep and lived with them for some time.  Her mental health deteriorated and she was a patient in Cherry Knowle Hospital (psychiatric) for some years where Brian Erskine visited her regularly.

 

She married Will STOREY. Occupation Solicitor.

 b 25 Dec 1891 bpt 17 Jan 1892  St Peters Monkwearmouth  born at 47 Dame Dorothy St.  Was sent to America with £500 being put on the boat at Liverpool by the family solicitor.  He was the black sheep of the family and had been thrown out but kept returning and stealing the family silver according to a conversation Brian Erskine had with his mother Ada.  Tom Hutchinson the dentist recalls bumping into his brother in the trenches in World War 1.

His parents died when he was young, and he was brought up by his half-sister Minnie, whom he called Auntie Minnie (wife of Will Storey, a solicitor in John Street.) He had an elder brother, and two other sisters, Emma and Ada.  He literally "bumped into" his brother John Richard in the Trenches in WWI. John Richard had previously emigrated to the USA (Put on a ship by the family solicitor with £500 inheritance as he was not getting on well with his siblings, and considered himself head of household. There was also a dispute over the family silver.) Thomas became a dentist in Annfield Plain, County Durham. Marriage certificate has his father as Thomas Hutchinson - steam tug owner. Witnesses: Harry Swan (Thomas's best friend) and Elizabeth Weightman (presume Ada's mother).

On retirement he moved to a bungalow in Whickham with his wife Ada and daughter Audrey in 1960.

 

He married Ada WEGHTMAN, 17 Dec 1924. Born 3 Nov 1900. Died 10 Jul 1982.

Location:  Blangy-Tronville is a village in the Department of the Somme, on the left bank of the River Somme, 10 kilometres east of Amiens. From Amiens train station turn left onto the Rue Jules Barni in the direction of Longeau, then take the N29 in the direction of St Quentin. Approximately 4 kilometres from Longeau train station, on the N29, turn left in the direction of Blangy-Tronville. Cross over the railway once and then turn left and cross over again. The cemetery lies on the right hand side of the road and the CWGC Plots will be found to the left and rear of the cemetery. Mathew's Grave (No31) is to be found at the extreme NW corner of the cemetery behind the Great Cross, it is the last in the row.

 

 Historical Information:  The Communal Cemetery was used, and extended, by British and French troops in 1918, but the two Extensions, on the North side, have been removed. There are now over 40, 1914-18 war casualties commemorated in this site. One grave, destroyed by shell fire, is now represented by a special memorial. The plot covers an area of 291 square metres.

He grew up in and around Keswick, which he described as mostly open horse paddocks. He was educated at Richmond Primary school, and left school at an early age to help support their large family, working at Gard Brothers cycle works and several cool stores preparing rabbits and skins. (He could skin 1800 rabbits a day). He saved and bought a truck and worked doing deliveries for Henry Berry's until he went into the Newsagency at 77 Glen Osmond Rd. Eastwood.

A letter from George written in 1984 provided information about his grandparents, parents and some of his aunts and uncles. George remembered the Beale family well, as he often stayed with them.  I will write by the help of God an obituary of our dear father

Jethro Hall. Father was born October 17, 1873 and deceased Jan-

rary 19, 1968 making his stay here on earth 94 years 3 months and

two days. He was the son of Harrison Hall and Elizabeth Bates Hall.

In his early life he was married to Rosa Meade to to this union was

born 3 boys and 6 girls. Two girls and three boys preceded him in....

death, leaving his loving wife and four daughters to mourn his loss,

Luly Johnson, Marie Martin, Anna Hampton and Goshen Hall. He had

24 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren one sister Rosanna Thornsberry

a host of friends and relatives to mourn his loss.

He joined the Old Regular Baptist Church in October 1919 and

had his membership at the Rebecca Church at Hall, Kentucky in Knott

County. He was the clerkaround 30 yearsand lived a faithful member

until his death. On one dark and stormy night the death angel took

from this home a loving father and a good husband. Mother hold up

and be brave, it won't be long until we can go live with father in that

heavenly country where the sun always shine. We feel our loss is

heaven's gain.

day in October 1969, at his home at Puncheon, Kentucky.
