The funeral services were conducted at the home yesterday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the La Plata cemetery.

223. Jesse E. Miles

A death certificate was obtained for Jesse which gave his widows name and where he was buried. Marion (Davis) Miles was then found in the SS Death Index as having died in Bangor ME. Her obituary mentioned Jesse as her husband but no children were mentioned. Seems to be a dead end for decendants.

Marion Davis

The information for Marion was gathered from her obituary that was found in a bangor nerspaper. I was provided by Susan Watts of Bradford, ME. There was no mention of children in the obituary. Evidently there are no decendants from this marriage.

106. Robert Edgar Miles

Etta Mae (Jewell) Tarplay provided the following children's names and data. Robert is supposed to be buried in Piedmont Cemetery, Otey (Rt. 1 Shawsville) VA. Robert fought in the Civil War and lived to within a few days of his 103 birthday. He fought in the battle of Antietam where he was wounded and crawled back to his lines to save his life.
In 1937, when he bore the distinction of being the oldest Confederate veteran present at the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the battle of Antietam, he represented the South in a triple handclasp with a Union veteran and President Franklin D. Roosevelt. At that time, he recalled having been severely wounded in the legs, being discharged because of his injuries.
