OBITUARY MRS. ANN WITHROW

The death of Mrs. Ann WITHROW, Saturday of last week, removes from our midst a most interesting member of the older generation of Lincoln citizens. Strong, sturdy characteristics mark this old generation, whose member is growing smaller every year. A high sense of personal honor, directness of speech, strong religious convictions, hospitality and pronounced social qualities were traits that mark these old fathers and mothers, and Mrs. Ann WITHROW had them all.

She was the oldest daughter of Elder Thomas Jefferson WRIGHT, known far and wide at an early day - and for that matter remembered today- as an early Primitive Baptist Preacher. He was a Kentuckian, a strain of blood that flows through the veins of many eminent Missourians. He died 1867. His daughter, Ann, was born in bourbon county, Kentucky, June 1, 1822. In early girlhood, we believe, she came to Missouri and to Lincoln County with her father. She was married in '39 to J.H. WITHROW, whose death occurred, however, May 20,1868. To them were born ten children, four of whom survive, T.W., of this city, Jas. M.Z., of Neosho, Mo. and Mrs. Georgia CLORE and Mrs. Ella CLORE of Waverland, Ind., one sister and one brother, Mrs. Lizzie WITHROW and Lewis C. WRIGHT, of this city, and one half-sister, Mrs. Catherine MARTIN, of Louisiana, also survive her.

Mrs. WITHROW adopted the Primitive Baptist faith at an early day and never wavered an instant in her devotion. Her membership was in old Sand Run Church, that shelter for many a sturdy and constant Christian. A regular and earnest attendant was she at the services held in this venerable church.

Her death took place last Saturday morning at 5:40 o'clock, at the home of her son, T.W. WITHROW, with whom she lived, after an illness of less than two hours. Heart disease was the cause of her demise. The day before she had been feeling unusually well and her death came as a severe shock to friends and relatives. Funeral services were held at the WITHROW residence Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing friends. Rev. C. Latham conducted the services. The remains were then conveyed to the city cemetery for interment.

Peace to her ashes.
