Mary J. BIRKHEAD was born March 27, 1825, in Lincoln County on the farm now owned by G. A. HAMILTON near Troy. Barney THORNHILL, her father, came here from Virginia and was one of the Pioneers of the county. The subject of this notice was the last of the family of ten. She was married to John M. BIRKHEAD, April 24, 1849, and he preceeded her to the grave, July 11, 1873. To this union eight children were born, six of whom survive: four, Mrs. Alice BAILEY, R. L. BIRKHEAD, Mrs. Jennie LINAHAN and Mrs. Ruth CLARK live in this county ad were present during her last illness. Two sons J. N. and S. L. BIRKHEAD reside in California. Her death was due to the grippe together with old age.....rest is missing.
