Lewis G. MARTIN moved his family to Lincoln Co., MO prior to Sept. 1844. BLM record show the following: Louis G. MARTIN – Accession/Serial MO 2410-243 Document NO.: 22660 Issue date Sept 10, 1844: N1/2NE Sect 27, twnshp 50-N, Range 1-E, 5th PM, Lincoln Co., MO. His son George W. MARTIN purchased a land patent Sept 10, 1844 for land in Lincoln Co. Thomas Gideon MARTIN purchased land patents Dec. 1848 and April 1855. Lewis was a member of an organization known as the "Slickers" according to the publication "The Slicker War" by Clarke Thomas and Jack Glendenning, Bona Publishing Co. Aldrich, MO c 1984.

Prior to 1850 Lewis moved to Jasper Co., MO
1850 Federal Census records show the following living with him: Alley, Patrick E., John L, America Jane, Joyce and Richard.

1860 Federal Census records show Lewis in Dallas Co., MO with him are:
Alice, Richard, Joyce and three of America Jane’s children (Mary Ellen ALLISON, America Jane ALLISON and Adaline WOODCOCK).

Richard H. joined the Confederates, signing up in Van Buren, AR, in 1862.

After the Civil War, Lewis, Alice, Richard, Mary Ellen ALLISON, America Jane ALLISON and Adaline WOODCOCK moved back to Lincoln, Co. MO

The 1870 Federal Census shows
Lewis and Adaline WOODCOCK are living with Richard and his family in Lincoln, Co., MO. America Jane ALLISON is living with William W. and Harriet E. JAMISON in Lincoln Co., MO.
