Rev. Edward Lee RUTLEDGE was born in McDonough county, March 8, 1863, and moved with his parents to Chariton county in 1870. He completed the course of study in the country schools and attended the school at Breckenridge, Mo., and from there the Pritchett Institute at Glasgow, Mo. He joined the Missouri Conference in the fall of 1886 at St. Joseph. He was married the same year to Miss Alice HERBERT of Breckenridge, Mo.  Since he began his ministry he has served the following charges: Fayette circuit, Mt. Zion circuit, Mexico circuit, Readsville circuit, Jamesport, Pattonsburg, Lineville, Iowa, Station; Bowling Green and Troy.  Mr. RUTLEDGE was stationed at Troy three years.  He has had during his ministry more than four hundred additions to the church, and baptized more than three hundred persons.  Besides this, he has raised for building and repairing churches, Twenty-two thousand dollars.  To the building of the beautiful M. E. Church, of which Troy now boasts, is due much to the zeal of Mr. RUTLEDGE. He has many friends in Troy who regretted to see him leave.  He is at present located at O'Fallon, Mo.


Note regarding clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection":  Neva Murphy Hubbard (1886-1971) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO.  She collected a large file of clippings of Lincoln County residents. The majority of the clippings were without citation. Beth Rengers Talken, beneficiary of the collection, has transcribed them for inclusion in our Lincoln County Heritage Records.
