A Visit With John Barton Pollard (date unknown)
No. 247 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

My friend John Barton POLLARD dropped into my office to see me a few days ago. This is the first time he has been back to Troy in 50 years. Shame on him. He is 82 years old; my age. He didn't tell me who he was, but I knew him. We spent a good half hour talking about the Troy of 50 to 70 years ago. We both knew about the same thing; when O.H. AVERY, Dr. C.D. AVERY, Dick NORTON, Dr. ROBINSON, Will YOUNG, Henry CHILDERS, Charles MARTIN, Joe CREECH, Dee PERKINS, H.W. KEMPER, Tom WITHROW, Dr. MCKAY, Bill BRAGG, Fritz HARBAUM, Joe HART, Jim JACKSON, Ira RUSSELL, Dr. PENDLETON, N. HANNI, Oscar ALLISON, Robert SCHUCHMAN, James MCCLELLAN, W.T. AYDELOTT, Judge E.B. WOOLFOLK, Bob SHELTON, Peachy SHELTON, Will HARLAN and many others I could mention of those days, before and after.

John, married Frances KABLER, one of Dr. KABLER's two daughters. The other daughter was Neta, now Mrs. DAVIS, who lives in Hannibal. I remember Dr. KABLER well. My brother Henry, clerked in his drug store in Troy several years. John BARTON told me he built the Merrell TAYLOR house, on old Moscow road out of native lumber and lived there about 4 years. Now lives in New Orleans. He and his wife came on train to visit her sister, Mrs. DAVIS in Hannibal. These 2 girls live too far apart. John was with the Peoples Bank here about 17 years. Went to Hannibal and help organize the Hannibal Trust Co. Sold his interest in two years. Now retired. Always a good business man. They have one son Robert Nier POLLARD, of Dallas, Texas. He is advertising manager of Sears Roebuck & Co. of that section. Has been with them about 20 years. I asked John what they would pay a man like that? He told me but am ashamed to tell you for we have no salaries like that around here. John Barton POLLARD, I enjoyed my visit with you. Come back again.
