Obituary for Mary Josephine Sidebottom (1844-1912)
No. 131 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.


Mr. Joseph HERNDON and wife were residents of St. Charles county in an early day having imigrated from Virginia. One of their children was Miss Mary Josephine who was born in Lincoln, Mo., December 16th, 1844. March 16th, 1862 she was married to Mr. John SIDEBOTTOM of Virginia. To them God gave four children two sons and two daughters all of whom survive their mother, they are: Samuel S. SIDEBOTTOM of Wentzville, Mrs. Susan DERMODY of Mexico, Thomes A. SIDEBOTTOM of Altis Oklahoma.

In early life sister SIDEBOTTOM believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and she followed him faithfully unto the end. She united with the Pleasent Hill Church, St. Charles Co. and was baptized by Rev. W. VARDEMAN, later she became a member in Mexico.

Beautiful is the testimony from by [sic] her old neighbor of her sympathetic kindness in sickness helpfulness at all times and her love and industry in her home.

Having been early left in widowhood, she filled the mulitplied duties that [sic] courage and consecration. One gentleman said to me, "You can'not [sic] say too much of Mrs. SIDEBOTTOM.

Death came at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday September 3rd, 1912, at 708 N. Washington St. Mexico, Mo.

The burial occured at Wentzville after services at the Baptist Church, September 4th. A large number of relatives and friend's were present in mutual sorrow and to comfort one another.

Note regarding clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection":  Neva Murphy Hubbard (1886-1971) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO.  She collected a large file of clippings of Lincoln County residents. The majority of the clippings were without citation. Beth Rengers Talken, beneficiary of the collection, has transcribed them for inclusion in our Lincoln County Heritage Records.
