Obituary for John H. Jeans (1849-1922)
No. 070 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

John Henry JEANS was born in Lincoln county Missouri, January 29, 1849. He lived his entire life in Lincoln county and died at his home in Troy, December 28, 1922.

He was married to Sarah Elizabeth WILLIAMS on October 29th, 1874. To this union eight children were born as follows: Margaret E. ACHOR, of Troy; Lou V. BOYD, of St. Louis; Rolla C. JEANS, of Troy; Emory C. JEANS, of California; Beulah B. GLADNEY, of Edina; Alice May JEANS, who died four years ago; Clifford G. JEANS, of Troy; and Victoria G. BRAGG, of Troy.

A short time after his marriage he moved to the farm five miles south of Troy where he made his home until a few weeks ago when he moved to Troy. This farm stands as a monument to his industry, he having cleared nearly all of it from the woods.

In 1879 he united with the Baptist church and was a faithful member until his death. In every phase of his life, as a husband, father, neighbor, friend, business man and church member, he was consistent, honorable and faithful to every duty.

About one year ago he had a cold from which he never recovered. He continued to grow worse until his death. A good man is gone. He will be missed by a large circle of relatives, neighbors and friends.

--J.F. BREEN.
