Obituary for Sarah Amanda Allen (1827-1903)
AKA Sarah Amanda Curtis
No. 002 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

Mrs. Sarah Amanda ALLEN, nee CURTIS, died at her home in Troy, Mo., March 19, 1903. She was born in Fredericksburg, Spottsylvania county, Va., Jan. 5, 1827.

Sister ALLEN united with the Stephensburg Baptist church and was baptized by Rev. Thornton STRINGFELLOW, in Oct. 1847. In Culpepper county, Va., Nov. 26., 1857, she was united in marriage to Jacob O. ALLEN. To them four children were born, one boy and three girls, of whom two daughters, Mrs. T.M. BITTICK and Mrs. Wiley HUSTON, survive her.

Thirteen years ago Sister ALLEN united with the Troy Baptist church. For fifty-six years she was a consistent member of the Baptist church. She loved her church and was a regular attendant until the close of her life. Her devotion and faithfulness is not only worthy of imitation, but is a blessed comfort to her loved ones. "They sorrow not as those who have no hope."

Her funeral service was conducted by her late pastor, in the church of which she was a member. He spoke briefly from the words: "We are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord." (II Cor. 5:8) At the conclusion of this service her body was laid to rest until the blessed resurrection day. Believing that she loved the Lord, we also believe she is now at home with the Lord, and by God's grace, loved ones hope to meet her in the beautiful land above.  --L.V. EDWARDS

Note regarding clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection":  Neva Murphy Hubbard (1886-1971) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO.  She collected a large file of clippings of Lincoln County residents. The majority of the clippings were without citation. Beth Rengers Talken, beneficiary of the collection, has transcribed them for inclusion in our Lincoln County Heritage Records.
