George L. HARNESS, a successful farmer and stock raiser of Lincoln County, Mo., is a son of John L. and Elizabeth (BESWICK) HARNESS, both of whom were born in the "Buckeye" State. There they married and lived until 1850, when they came to Missouri and settled in Pike County, where the father still resides. The mother’s death occurred there in 1881. Their family consisted of seven children—five sons and two daughters—only four of whom are living. The oldest child, George L., was born June 9, 1850, and was reared and educated in Pike County. He made his home with his father until 1879, when he was married to Lucinda STROTHER, who was born in the "Old Dominion" and came to Pike County, Mo., in 1854. Three children blessed their union and are named in the order of their births: Nellie, Harry and Reuben. Since his marriage, Mr. HARNESS has resided on his present farm of 280 acres, which is well improved. He is neutral in politics and his father is a Republican. His wife belongs to the Methodist Church South.
