OSAGE REGIMENT, HICKORY COUNTY BATTALION, MISSOURI HOME GUARD

Organized by authority of Major General John C. Fremont with companies forming in June, July, and August 1861. Duty in Camden, Miller, Hickory, Benton and Cole Counties, preventing organization of rebel companies, and captured powder distributed by agents of Governor C. F. Jackson. Until about the 15th of August active service was rendered at Jefferson City, and in the field until December, 1861, when the regiment was disbanded.

The information below was drawn from two major sources-the Missouri Secretary of State Soldier's Database, 1812-World War I [searched for all soldiers who served during the Civil War in the Osage Regiment Hickory County Battalion, yielding 398 names], and the National Park Service Civil War Soldiers & Sailors System [searched for all soldiers who served in the Hickory County Battalion, Osage County Regiment, Missouri Home Guards, yielding 565 names]. Not all of the 625 men listed below lived in Hickory County; many went on to serve in regular Army units after the Osage Regiment disbanded.

The Osage Regiment consisted of 17 companies. This listing of officers was taken from Missouri Commandery of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States website. Note that only 5 of the companies include Hickory County in their name, but the list of soldiers below includes many more identified with Hickory County battalions.
