McCammon Cemetery, Grundy County, MO


This cemetery is located on the A. C. Miller farm in Madison Township; S24 -T61N -R25W. It is approximately 1/2 mile from the road east in a pasture; cement posts outlining a 20 foot square plot. From 16 to 20 unmarked or native stones; unmarked graves. This was the plot on the farm where slaves or negro workers were buried. The two white men worked on the farm as laborers with negro workers and requested to be buried there among their friends. The cemetery was recorded in 1963 by Mrs. B. F. Hoover.

 VA Milita Rev War. The only Revolutionary War veteran buried in Grundy County
The Dorcas Richardson Chapter DAR first mentioned marking the grave of Revolutionary War Soldier, Thomas BRYANT, in 1914. It was learned that he had drawn a Rev. War pension in Grundy County and was buried in this plot. In November 1917, DAR minutes state that a military marker had been sent by the government and had been erected at his grave at a cost of 30 cents for cement by Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Ireland and Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas.

The above two stones are government stones and carry the men's military records but no dates of birth or death. A later search revealed that McCAMMON was listed as James, h/o Judah Ann. Her pension record shows that he died while in service at camp at St. Louis, March 28, 1862. Judah Ann, his wife, born 1835. No children. Married February 5, 1861.
