I am trying to find out all the information that I can about my father's side of the family that lived in Trenton, Halfrock & Spickard Mo. My Great-grandfather was Andrew Smiley. He was born in Indiana & relocated in Halfrock. He enlisted in the Mo 44th Inf in the Civil War & was killed in the battle of Franklin Tn near the end of the war; 1864. He left behind a widow & two sons. One son was also known as Andrew ( I do not know the other son's name) & he was my Grandfather. He was a blacksmith in Halfrock or one of the little communities close by. My father's name was Cecil W Smiley. He was born in Halfrock in 1900. He died in 1979. I know there is still family around Spickard, Trenton, Laredo. My dad's mother's side of the family was Garrett. John Garrett was my Great-grandfather who also fought in the Civil War on the northern side but he returned home. He was a farmer & I believe he had 12 or 13 kids. He is buried in Halfrock. I believe the only thing left in Halfrock is the church & graveyard. The Garrett family reunion used to be held there. I only met some of the family when I was very small. My dad had three sisters-Ninnie, Ethel & Flo. Aunt Ethel & Aunt Flo stayed around those small towns the rest of their lives. They are also gone. I know they had children. Aunt Ethel married Frank Russell & I believe their son's name is Kenneth. Aunt Flo married Jess Warren. I believe they had a daughter named Mary or Mary Jane. I suppose I'm lucky to know as much as I do but I really would love to locate some of my cousins & find out more about the family background. I hope you can pass on some information to me or let someone know of my search. Thank you so very much.

My G.G. Grandfather, Samuel KELSO was one of the earliest settlers of Lincoln Twp. Grundy Co. MO. having arrived there in the fall of 1837. He was born in Spartenburg Co. S.C 10 Jul. 1794. A group of KELSOs and others left S.C. about 1807 and settled in Daviess and Dubois Cos. in Indiana. In the group was the Henry FOSTER family. In Daviess Co. IN on 16 Oct. 1819 Samuel married Dorcas, the daughter of Henry and Sarah FARIS FOSTER. Nine of the 12 children OF Samuel and Dorcas were born in Indiana before they left to come to Missouri. The youngest daughter was born in Illinois. I haven't determined if they lived there for a while or if she was born while passing through. The youngest child, my gr. grandfather, Hiram A.H., was born in Grundy County on 16 May 1840. The oldest daughter of Samuel and Dorcas, Margaret (Peggy) married Robert SPEER. They moved to Harrison Co. MO where Robert died in 1876 and Peggy in 1903. They had a daughter Nancy (Sis) who married Thomas ALEXANDER and two sons, Samuel P. and Robert E. I will exchange information about any of these families.

I have an 1880 census record of Trenton Township, Grundy County, MO that lists my gggrandfather Charles N (could be an H) LONG. He is listed as a farmer and there are 4 children. It says that he was born in Ohio about 1842 and that his parents were both born in PA. Shortly after this Annie LONG died and Charles enlisted the aid of his neighbors to care for the children. A family named NICHOLSON took my grandfather, William LONG with them when they moved to western Iowa. He never saw his family again. Annie LONG was born in KY and we don't know her maiden name. They were married about 1869. Any help in finding this family would be greatly appreciated.
