This is a family cemetery located 4 miles east of Jamesport, Missouri on State Road F and 3/4 mile South on a gravel road. Jefferson Township (S33-T60N-R25W) Grundy County, Missouri. Lorenzo Dowe Thompson made his first exploratory trip into this area in 1830. He then returned home to Hopkinsville, Kentucky where on December 22, 1831 he married Miss Nancy C. Oates. In 1835 he returned with his wife and two small children to this area. In 1836 he removed his small family to Saint Louis for safety due to threats from Indians and Mormans. In the spring of 1837 the family, which now consisted of three small children, returned and homesteaded on this property which was to remain in the Thompson family for over 100 years. Across the road from this cemetery on a north sloping hillside, a slave graveyard was located, though no traces of it can be seen today (1997). These were slaves who came with Lorenzo and his family to this area and when they were freed asked to be allowed to stay with him, which they did as long as they wanted to.
