IMPORTANT!
» While the site is being updated, links on the new pages (all have the headers) will have this pale yellow background.
» All links on the ORIGINAL GRUNDY SITE" will work as they did previously. If a page has been redone, the page will display in the website's new look.

I am Lynda Coffman Peach, the new Webmistress and Coordinator for website. Bear with me as I update the Grundy County MOGEN website. This website is near and dear to my heart. I grew up in this county, my father was botn in this county. This website and Larry were so helpful when I started my genealogy journey in 1998. His grandparents knew my grandparents. So, please email me if you have any suggestions or contributions you would like to make. I am unable to do additional research on your family, but I have ancestors here and will update the site with general information I find. The first goal is to move current content into the new format.

There aren't enough words to properly thank Larry Flesher who established this website. Larry has stepped down after years of service. Larry started this website in 1996. In fact, he was part of the team that envisioned what USGEN.org could be.
Thank you Larry for everything you have done for Grundy County and for all of Missouri (MOGEN). Larry was also the Missouri Coordinator for all of the MOGEN (county) websites for several years.

County Was Established

Grundy County, Missouri was organized January 2, 1841 from part of Livingston County. The county is named for Felix GRUNDY, U.S. Attorney General under President Van Buren. The County Seat is Trenton, Missouri, 64683 with a population of 5,584 (2021).

Before white men settled in Grundy County, it was occupied as a hunting ground by tribes of Sac, Sioux, and Pottawottomie Indians. The Iowas tribe occupied what is now Grundy, Mercer, and Harrison counties.

No obtainable record or tradition exists of a permanent settlement being made until 1833, when General W. P. THOMPSON settled near the Grand River. Among the first settlers in the vicinity of the present site of Trenton were: James R. MERRILL, Samuel BENSON, John THRAILKILL, Levi MOORE, William COCHRAN, Jewett NORRIS, John SCOTT, and Daniel DeVAUL, plus the PERRY, GRUBB, and METCALF families.

I hope you find this website helpful in your research of Grundy County roots. I am unable to do local research on the county as do not live in Missouri and do not have direct access to records.
