Montie served in Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) stationed stateside in Montana. As a child he was raised at Montgaw Springs, MO, by Aunt Grace Cole Eason. The story had been told that Montie was bought by Grace for $1.

He grew up hunting and fishing. During the Depressio era he went to California. He came back to MO, met and married Nora Catherine Dakin. After the birth of thier three daughters, the CCC sent him to Montana again. After WWII ended, three boys came along.

Montie worked in the sheep pens at the KC Stockyards; Hillcrest Country Clubdoing grounds maintenance; in 1951 went to work as Bullistics Truck Driver, Lake City Army Ammunitions Plant, while at the same time worked at Cortson's Turkey Farm. He retired from Lake City.

Paul W. Dakin

1920-1997

Paul W. Dakin, 77, St. Joseph, died Thursday, Nov 20, 1997, at a St. Joseph hospital.

He was born on July 3, 1920, in Drexel, Mo., and lived most of his life in St. Joseph.

Mr. Dakin managed the machine shop, specializing in Disel engines, at the former Leo Robertson Tire and Motor Co. in St. Joseph for 40 years. He also served in the Army during World War II.

He was a member of the King Hill Baptist Church, and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6760, both of St. Joseph.

On Nov. 28, 1942, he married Verda Marie McDowell in Plattsburg, Mo. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Neva Dakin, and an infant son, Paul.

Additional survivors: two sons, Charles, Gladstone, Mo., and Steven, Fenton, Mo., and five grandchildren.

Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial: Allen Cemetery, Gower, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
