New Liberty School

This 1907 New Liberty School photo was colorized by the Chicago Portrait Company in 1939. The school was located near Highway H and the Chicago Store, and was known unofficially by locals as the "Chicago School". A black and white version was published by the Buffalo, Missouri, County Courier on April 6, 1978, which included the following text:
NEW LIBERTY SCHOOL - The old picture of the New Liberty School was turned into the Courier office by Lucy Newman. The photo was taken in 1907. The students pictured [row one] are: Effie Shembarger, Edger West, June Morgan, Ercell Newhouse, Flossie Swift, Fern Engle, Lettie Dalton, Villa Hoover, Verda Coffelt, and Dewey Swift. Second row: Clarence Owens, Lona Swift, Ethel Yates, Lee Swift, Gertie Morgan, Henry Eisman, Phena Coffelt, Floyd Swift, Arley West, Cecil Newhouse, Clovel West, and Abbie Williams. Third row: Lillie Hoover, Lova Swift, Deliah Pinkly, Martha Owens, Viola Yates, Irene Eisman, Arthur Hoover, Laura Pinkly, Inez Swift, Oscar Hoover, and Virgil Hoover.
The teacher is Adra Walker. Abbie Williams, the last boy in row two is cut off in this picture.
