Velma May Murray, March 25, 1916 - September 15, 2008. Velma May Murray, 92,
Archie, MO, died Monday, September 15, 2008 at Cass Medical Center in
Harrisonville, MO. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September
20, 2008 at the Atkinson Chapel in Archie, MO. Burial will be in Crescent Hill
Cemetery, Adrian, MO. Friends may call from 6:30-7:30 PM Friday, September 19 at
the Atkinson Chapel in Archie. Contributions may be made to the Asthma and

Velma M. Murray, March 25, 1916 – Sept. 15, 2008. Velma M. Murray, 92, Archie,
died Sept. 15, 2008, at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville. She was
born March 25, 1916, at Archie, the daughter of Richard Lawson and Rosa Lee
(Mace) Drury. Feb. 21, 1937, she married Alfred Floyd Murray. She was a lifelong
resident of Archie. Mrs. Murray had worked at the sewing factory in Garden City
and at a luggage factory in Kansas City. She was the Austin Township Tax
Collector from 1968 to 1972. She was baptized at the United Brethren Church in
Crescent Hill, later joining with Archie Christian Church. Preceding her in
death were her parents; her husband of 55 years, Alfred, who died Feb. 20, 1992,
a son, Arthur Floyd; a son-in-law, Robert Carter; four brothers; and two
sisters. Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Carter, Houston, Texas; her
daughter-in-law, Carol Murray, Flagstaff, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Cynthia
Richards and husband, Van, Houston, Sheri Murray, Linda Murray and Mark Murray,
all of California, and four great-grandchildren, Brian and Blake Richards, Kyle
Murray, Meghan Murray; and a great-great-granddaughter, Michaela Murray. Casket
bearers were Wayne Greer, Roy Estes, Don Kendrick, Bobby Drury, Keven Ford and
Jim Kendrick. Services were Sept. 20 at the Atkinson Chapel in Archie with the
Rev. Joe Crook officiating. Music was provided by Jim and Carole Lynne Arnold.
Burial was in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, under the direction of Atkinson
Funeral Home, Archie.
