MARTIN, Mildred B. (1917 - 2009)

Mildred B Martin, July 8, 1917 - July 26, 2009. Graveside services for Mildred B. Martin, age 92 of Willow Springs, Missouri formerly of Butler, Missouri will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 1 at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 31 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be given to the Butler Public Library. Mildred B. Martin, age 92, a long-time resident of Butler, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009 at Willow Care Nursing Home in Willow Springs, Missouri. She was born July 8, 1917 in Cameron, Missouri, the daughter of Pearl Robbins Huey and Henry Huey. Mildred had three brothers and one sister, Glen, Alvin, Robbins "BOB" and Delia Packham who preceded her in death. She moved to Butler in her youth. On October 13, 1935 she was united in marriage to Kermit Wesley Martin. They had one son, Jay Dee Martin. Mildred and Kermit enjoyed a very loving marriage for 58 years together until his death April 9, 1994. Mildred was a homemaker and loving wife and mother and she was also a care-giver to her parents and Kermit’s parents. They made their home at Butler Recreation Lake for over 50 years before moving to Brookside Manor shortly before Kermit’s death. Their family enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. Summers were spent with most weekends occupied with a fishing rod in their hand. Mildred and Kermit doted on their grandchildren making many long visits to their out-of-state home. She moved to Willow West apartments in Willow Springs, Missouri to be closer to her son in her later years but always considered Butler as home. Mildred is survived by her son Jay Dee Martin and partner Leigh Adams and her daughter Emily Phillips of Tecumseh, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jennifer Hochstetler and husband Phillip and Jessica Martin and fiancé Ashlee Fraley of Midlothian, Virginia; and one great-granddaughter Ayden Hochstetler of Midlothian, Virginia.

MARTIN, Nellie Lucille (1922 - 2006)

Nellie Lucille Martin, age 84, a former resident of Fort Scott, Kan., and more recently of Nevada, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center. She was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Bourbon County, Kan., the daughter of Fred Leroy Cowan and Jennie Daering Cowan. She married Joe K. Martin on Nov. 13, 1972, in Girard, Kan. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2005. Nellie worked for Key Industries in Fort Scott and the Nellie Don Dress Company in Nevada. She was of the Baptist faith. Nellie was a former member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Lawrence, and husband, Jim, of Nevada; two grandchildren, Bryan Lawrence, Nevada, and Bridget Kavanagh, Carterville, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Shannon Lawrence, Deerfield, Mo., and Melissa Kavanagh, Carterville; and a great-great-granddaughter, Emilie Lawrence, Deerfield. The Rev. Bill Smith will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 11, at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Scott. The family will receive friends at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel on Friday from 10 a.m., until leaving for the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
