John Williams married November 27, 1856, in Vernon Co., Missouri, to
Melissa Jane Rutledge. He died prior to or in 1860 leaving a widow and
one child, my great-grandmother, Anna Elizabeth Williams who married
James Benjamin Paul in Linn Co., KS. It is suspected John Williams was
killed [or ran off] during the Kansas troubles as our families crossed
back and forth between Bates Co., Missouri, and Linn and Anderson
Counties, Kansas, during those times.*
