Jackson, Edith Mary Zeigel - On Wednesday, November 15, 2006 Edith Mary (Zeigel) Jackson went into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at the age of 93 years, seven months and one day.

Edith was born April 14, 1913 in Sweet Springs, Missouri, the daughter of William and Cora (Page) Zeigel. Edith attended school in Fairfax, Missouri. Edith married Walter Jackson December 24, 1930 and lived in rural Tarkio, Missouri and later moved into town. Their marriage brought forth five daughters and one son, Beverly, Norma, Mary, Kenneth, Faith and Teresa. They were later divorced.

Edith has lived much of her life in Tarkio. She was a telephone operator for the Tarkio Telephone Company from approximately 1949 to about 1962. She worked for a short time at a local drug store before traveling to Twin Falls, Idaho where she worked for a potato factory. When Edith returned in 1966, she moved to St. Joseph, Missouri where she worked as a nurse's aid at Methodist Hospital. In 1978, Edith returned to Tarkio and was employed by Community Hospital, Fairfax.

In 1978, Edith officially retired from the Methodist Hospital system, yet in her heart, she truly never retired. Edith loved to be active and work was her life. She worked cleaning homes for others, and worked ever so hard in her own home and yard where she lived until her passing. Edith had also cleaned the Tarkio Assembly of God Church where she was a faithful long standing member.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Norma Carol Jackson and Mary (Jackson) Long, three sisters, three brothers, three grandchildren, daughter-in-law Peggy Jackson and son-in-law A. J. Eyman.

Edith is survived by her children, Beverly Gibbons, and husband, Henry, Tarkio, Kenneth Jackson, Destin, Florida, Faith Eyman, Nebraska City, Nebraska, and Teresa McCarthy and husband, Bob, Granby, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren, one sister, Lola May Jackson and other family members and friends.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for your many kindnesses evidenced in thoughts, deeds and for your attendance at the funeral services. May God bless each and every one.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, November 18, 2006 at the Assembly of God Church, Tarkio, with burial at Prairie Hill Cemetery, Tarkio. Memorials may be directed to the Assembly of God Church.

Jensen, Sherrie Lynn Bell, the daughter of Morrell (Monk) and Maxine Margaret (Whited) Bell was born July 26, 1946 in San Diego, California. Sherri graduated from Tarkio High School in 1964 and attended business school for two years in Nebraska.

Sherrie was employed in administration in numerous areas including patient billing and payroll. She was currently employed by Deseret Industries, in Mesa, Arizona. Sherrie passed away Friday, February 2, 2007 at Sky Ridge Medical Center, in Lone Tree, Colorado at the age of 60 years.

Sherrie was a member of the LDS Church.

Survivors include three sons Michael Stewart and wife, Angie, Blue Grass, Iowa, Kurt Stewart and fiance, Laura, Parker, Colorado and Matthew Jensen and wife, Jessica, Mesa; seven grandchildren; brother, Richard Bell, Valley, Nebraska.

Sherrie was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held 11:00 AM, Friday, February 9, 2007 at Davis Funeral Home Tarkio, Missouri. Burial at the Home Cemetery, Tarkio. Memorials may be directed to the Sherri Jensen Memorial Fund.

 

Johnson, Carl B. "Swede", the son of Ben and Rose (Bietz) Johnson, was born on October 30, 1912 in Bassett, Nebraska. He attended the Lincoln Country School and Nishnabotna High School.

On September 17, 1942, Carl entered the United States Army Air Corps, and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on February 6, 1946. During his time in the service, he was active in the Glide pilot branch of the Army Air Corps.

Upon returning from the service, Carl worked and farmed for area farmers. He was then employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad, where he worked for over 40 years. In 1974, Carl moved to town to live with his sister, Rachel. Due to a decline in his health, he became a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home in September, 2007. He passed away Sunday morning, December 16, 2007 at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 95 years.

Carl loved to hunt and fish, and especially enjoyed his garden.
He was a member of the Ralph Greer American Legion Post # 49, Rock Port, Missouri

Besides his parents, Carl is preceded in death by four brothers, Lewis, Ray, Bill and Richard Johnson; and one sister Rachel Neff. Carl is survived by three sisters, Irene Daniels, Independence, Missouri, Florence Leonard, Bonsall, California and Lucile Johnson, Rock Port, and several nieces and nephews.

Wednesday, December 19, 2007, 10:30 am., Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port,MO.
There is no scheduled family visitation.

Memorials may be directed to the Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port.
Military rites are under the auspice of Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port.

Johnson, Ruth Irene Lincoln, 92, of Glenwood, Iowa entered into
eternal rest on June 29, 2007 in Tabor, Iowa. She was born February 7,
1915 in Mills County, Iowa to Sheldon B. and Sylvia (Johnson)
Lincoln.
Ruth graduated from Pacific Junction High School. She was
united in marriage to Paul Wilhelm Johnson on May 11, 1935 in
Rockport, MO. To this union two children were born, Phyllis and
Roger. The family resided on the farm in Pacific Junction until moving
to Glenwood following her retirement from the Glenwood Resource
Center as a cook. Ruth was a member of First Baptist Church in
Glenwood, Pyhtian Sisters, and D.A.R. She dearly loved her family and
had a special little dog name Patsy. Ruth also enjoyed fishing and
reading.

 

Jones, Alice C. Orwick Driskell, the daughter of William D. and Missouri Belle (Hall) Orwick, was born August 17, 1918 in Trail, Missouri. She attended the Silver Shade Country School near Trail, in her youth.

In August 1934, she married Elbert Scott Driskell at Dora, Missouri. They made their home near Trail, Missouri and farmed until 1947. They moved to the Tarkio, Missouri area and farmed east of Tarkio. In 1952, they moved into Tarkio and Alice was employed with Tarkio College from 1955 to 1975. Scott passed away August 10, 1980. In 1981, she married Charles E. Jones, and lived in Tarkio. Charles passed away April 7, 1985. Alice continued to live in Tarkio until 2003, when she moved to Maryville, Missouri. Alice passed away November 18, 2007 at Beverly Healthcare in Maryville at the age of 89 years.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Scott and Charles; one son Marvin Driskell; one grandson and one great grandson. Survivors include one son, W.D. Driskell and his wife Pat, Maryville, one daughter, Eulah Southard and her husband Dewy, Myrtle Creek, Oregon, and daughter-in-law, Peggy Driskell, Hickory, North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and special niece Phyllis Schimming

Jones, Frank John "Johnny", Jr.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Novem­ber 12, 2006, at the United Methodist Church in Tarkio for F. John Jones, Jr., of Tarkio. Pastor Glenn Scott and Reverend Eric Anderson officiated. Interment was made in Center Grove Cem­etery in Westboro, Missouri, under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Tarkio. Military rites were conducted under the auspices of the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199 of Tarkio.

Frank John (Johnny) Jones, Jr.,was born April 8, 1926, to Frank J. and Rachel Carlson Jones, on their farm 5 miles north of Tarkio, Missouri. He went to school in Tarkio. His family was among the earliest members of the Tarkio United Methodist Church.

In 1942, during his senior year of Tarkio High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Pacific Theater as part of the Naval Air Corps division aboard the USS Detroit. He earned the Victory Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal and the Asian Pacific Area Campaign Medal (2 stars). He was honorably discharged in 1945.

John came home to Tarkio to farm with his family as the fourth generation on the farm. He met Emma Elizabeth Stewart while they were both working on their pilots licenses. They married on October 20, 1946 at the Tarkio Methodist Church. John and Elizabeth had three girls, Patricia Elizabeth, Marcia Elaine and Beverly Kay.

He was an active member of his community, participating as a Boy Scout Leader and a 4-H leader, on the University of Missouri Extension Council, Atchison County Extension Council, Tarkio R1 School Board and Farm Bureau. John was a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge, a 50 year 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and a 50 year member of Moila Shrine and the Order of Eastern Star. He was a Worshipful Master in the Masonic Lodge and a Worthy Patron in Eastern Star.

John was a 60 year member of the American Legion, Allen-Schiffern Post #199. He was Chairman of the Board of Colfax Farm Mutual Insurance. As a trustee of the C. Raymond Carpenter Trust, he was instrumental in improving and expanding healthcare services in Atchison County. He served on the Community Hospital Association Board of Directors for two terms.

Ever a forward thinking farmer, he participated in the Bi Agri Missouri Program by growing commercial broccoli as an alternative crop (1987). He was on the University of Missouri Advisory Council for the School of Agriculture (1967). In 2004, his then 135 year old farm received its designation as a Century Farm.

During his life John achieved many awards, among them the Outstanding Achievement Award by the Chamber of Commerce of Kansas City, Missouri and University Missouri and Balanced Farming Contest (1955), and the State Achievement Award by the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City, Missouri and the University of Missouri Farm Management Program (1976).

John and his family loved to travel and their trips took them all over the United States and the world. After their People to People Tour of China, they hosted a visit at their home and on the farm from the Minister of Agriculture from the Republic of Red China and her entourage.

John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, his three children: Patricia E. Stevens and her husband, Joel Bartlett Stevens, III, of Portland, Oregon; Marcia E. Lane and her husband, Alonzo Everett Lane, III, of Kansas City, Missouri; Beverly K. Jones of Tarkio, Missouri; and three grandsons: Christopher N. Caprio of Missoula, Montana; Alonzo Everett Lane, IV of New York, New York; John Stewart Lane of Kansas City, Missouri.

John is preceded in death by his sister, Rachel Lucile Jones and an infant son, John Douglas Jones.

Funeral Services were held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday November 12, 2006 at the United Methodist Church, Tarkio, Missouri, with burial at Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro, Missouri. Memorials may be directed to the Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri.

 

Joesting, Lee Henry - Lee Henry Joesting, the son of Louis H. and Anna Louise (Broermann) Joesting, was born July 16, 1923 in Tarkio, Missouri. He attended Highbank Country School west of Tarkio till the eight grade. Lee joined the United States Army, proudly serving his country during World War II, from 1943 – 1946.

On December 2, 1981, Lee was united in marriage to Marie Catherine Holliway in Orange County, California. He farmed west of Tarkio most of his life. In 1984, Lee purchased a farm north of Auburn, Nebraska. He and Marie lived there until retiring in 1994, when they moved to Nebraska City, Nebraska. They enjoyed wintering in Casa Grande, Arizona. Lee was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Westboro, Missouri. He passed away November 18, 2008 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City at the age of 85 years.

Besides his parents, Lee is preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Joesting and Herman Joesting and four sisters, Mary Parr, Hilda Walter, Inez Tieman and an infant sister.
Lee is survived by his wife, Marie of the home in Nebraska City; one step-daughter, Barbara Hultman and her husband, Steve, Tampa, Florida and one step-granddaughter, Sarah Hultman, Tampa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Johnson, Lucile Ruth - Lucile Ruth Johnson, the daughter of Ben and Rose (Bietz) Johnson, was born March 23, 1928 in Langdon, Missouri. She attended Lincoln Country School, near Langdon, graduating from Fairfax High School.

Lucile was very dedicated to her family, staying at home and helping care for her mother and brothers. She was a life-long member of the First Lutheran Church of Rock Port.

Besides her parents, Lucile is preceded in death by one sister, Rachel Neff and five brothers, Lewis Johnson, Ray Johnson, Bill Johnson, Richard Johnson and Carl Johnson.

Lucile is survived by two sisters, Irene Daniels, Independence, Missouri and Florence Leonard and her husband, Earl, Bonsall, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial in Hunter Cemetery near Rock Port, Missouri. Services directed by Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, Missouri.

Johnson, Lyllis Ann Chaney - Lyllis Ann (Chaney) Johnson, the daughter of Henry Jr. and Evelyn Lucille (Roberts) Chaney, was born on July 10, 1949 in Tarkio, Missouri. When Lyllis was five years old, the family moved to California. She returned to Tarkio while in her early teens, and attended Tarkio High School.

On May 2, 1970, Lyllis was united in marriage to Billy Joe Johnson in Rock Port and they became the proud parents of one son, Michael and one daughter, Pamela. Lyllis was employed at the Pleasant View Nursing Home and Northwest Missouri Industries, both in Rock Port, Missouri and The Korner Kitchen in Tarkio for a number of years.

Lyllis was a 30 year member of the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199 Auxiliary and held numerous offices. She was a member of the 8 & 40 Salon 816, Tarkio, for 19 years, and participated in Atchison County Government Day each year. She also enjoyed volunteer work in the community. Lyllis received the most enjoyment from her family and friends. She loved playing bingo, cards, spending time outdoors camping, and family get-togethers. Lyllis passed away Sunday April 5, 2009 at Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 59 years.

Besides her parents, Lyllis is preceded in death by three brothers, George Chaney, Rodger Chaney and Larry Chaney and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Billy Joe Johnson, of their home in Tarkio; son, Michael Johnson and his wife, Daniella, Rock Port; daughter, Pamela Corbin and her husband, Joey, Skidmore, Missouri; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; twin sister, Phyllis Sipes and her husband Larry, Forest City, Missouri; sisters, Connie Bowers and her husband, Jay, Shenandoah, Iowa, Sherry Chaney and Kevin Corbin, Blair, Nebraska, Marsha Flannagan, Fairfax, Missouri; and brother, Clifford Scott Chaney and Kema Pinzino, Tarkio.
