Adams, Hazel M. Kingery Rumery -

Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Hamburg, Iowa, for Hazel M. (Kingery) Adams, Rock Port, Missouri. Rev. Carroll Fisher officiated. Funeral services were under the direction of Rash-Gude Funeral Home, Hamburg.
Hazel M. (Kingery) Adams, age 84, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2001, at the Pleasant View Care Center in Rock Port. She was born May 1,1916, in Rock Port, the daughter of Daniel and Anna (Wooten) Kingery.
Hazel married Suel F. Rumery on October 26, 1940, in Maryville, Missouri, and later married Earle Adams on January 17, 1979, in Rock Port. She was a housewife and homemaker.
Hazel is survived by four children, Larry Rumery and wife, Linda, Fairfax, Garry Rumery, Las Vegas, Nevada, Sally Ann Baker and husband, Tom, Central Point, Oregon, and Jerry Lee Rumery and wife, Kathy, Omaha, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; brothers, Melvin, Tom, Richard and Earl Kingery; and sisters, Gladys and Ethel.

 

Burke, Phyllis Ann New

Visitation was held on Friday, March 17, 2006, at the Minter Funeral Chapel in Rock Port, MO, for the family of Phyllis Ann Burke of Chandler, AZ, formerly of Fairfax and Rock Port, MO. There were no funeral services.
Phyllis Ann Burke, the daughter of Russell and Evelyn (Close) New, was born on July 27, 1935, in Fairfax, MO. Phyllis passed away Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Hospice of the Valley, Chandler, at the age of 70 years.
When Phyllis was one, her father died in a farming accident. After that, she was raised by her mother, Evelyn, and her stepfather, Harold Volker. Phyllis attended school in Fairfax and graduated in 1953. During her school years, she participated in band and athletics.
On July 20, 1953, Phyllis was united in marriage to Gilbert Neal Burke at the United Methodist Church in Rock Port, MO, by Rev. Houser Winter. They made their home on the Willis Burke family farm. Shortly after that, they spent a few years moving around while Gilbert served in the U.S. Army. After Gilbert was discharged, they returned to Rock Port and raised two sons, Michael and Brad.
Following graduation from cosmetology school, on October 14, 1978, Phyllis opened a salon called the "Headquarters". In the early 1990's, she became a full-time bookkeeper at Burke and Sons Lumber Co. In 1999, Phyllis and Gilbert retired and began wintering in Arizona. In 2001, they moved to Chandler, where they lived to the present time.
Phyllis was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rock Port. She loved music and, in earlier years, was a member of Sweet Adelines. She loved bowling, playing tennis and golf, and was a former member of the Rock Port Country Club Board. Phyllis liked horseback riding and loved animals. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Phyllis was an energetic woman who had a passion for life. When attempting any task or activity, she always went "all-out". Whether playing golf or tennis, or bookkeeping at the lumberyard, Phyllis worked to the best of her ability, fostering the same characteristics in her family.
Besides her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by one brother, James Russell New. Survivors include her husband, Gilbert, of the home in Chandler; two sons, Michael Burke, Maryville, MO, and Brad Burke and his wife, Julie, Rock Port; one grandson, Jesse Kendall, St. Joseph, MO; two granddaughters, Emily and Katie Burke, Rock Port; one brother, Bud Volker, Tarkio; one sister, Kay Evans, Wichita, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to the Judevine Center for Autism.


Campbell, Cleo L. Stevenson

Cleo L. Stevenson Campbell born June 1920 in southeastern Nebraska and died June 1995 at her home in Craig at the age of 75 years and 1 day. She moved to Craig in 1966.
She graduated from the Dawson, NE high school and, was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of God in Craig.
On July 3,1946 she married Dan Campbell. He died in 1979.
Mrs. Campbell also was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include a son, Dickie of the home; a sister, Ethel Davis, Culbertson, NE; a niece, Linda Stovall, of the home.
Services were held Thursday morning at the Church of God in Craig with Rev. Ray Martin in charge. Interment was in IOOF Cemetery, Craig. Mrs. Dorotha Sharp was organist and she accompanied Mrs. Betty Wennihan, vocalist. Pallbearers were Dennis Wright, Richard Jackson, Roger Jackson, Alfred Schmidt, David Schmidt, Jayson Howard.

Coit, Ella Nora Vodrey -

Ella Nora Coit, 86, Rock Port, Missouri, died at her home on Thursday, December 30, 2004. Ella Nora was born on a farm near Ft. Scott, Kansas, on July 24, 1918. She was the youngest daughter of Lee and Anna (Atkins) Vodrey. Ella Nora graduated from high school at Fulton, Kansas, and also attended one year of nurses' training in Fort Scott.
On Nov. 19, 1949, Ella Nora became the wife of Bobby F. Coit in Kansas City, Missouri. Bob and Ella Nora lived in Kansas City until 1963, when they moved to Rock Port, where Bob was associated with Rock Port Oil Co. Ella Nora was employed at Pleasant View Nursing Home for 27 years.
In addition to her husband of 55 years, Ella Nora is survived by two daughters, Diane Lipham, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Barbara Schooler, Fairfax, Missouri; six grandchildren; Kelly Spiers, Gower, Missouri, Kristie Haynes, Rob Lipham, Audra Stockwell, and Bill Hecker, all of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Beverly King, Tarkio, Missouri; twelve great­grandchildren, Derrick and Taylor Spiers, Kiley, Ryann and Jadyn Haynes, Paige and Kyle Lipham, Alexis and Jaxon Stockwell, Tailor Galgano, Chance Hecker and Josie King.
Ella Nora was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd Ellis Meek; sister, Leanna Bunton; brother, Marion Vodrey; and a great-grandson, Clayton Alex Haynes.
Private family services are planned for a later date. The body was cremated under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, Missouri. Memorials may be directed to the Rock Port Nutrition Site.

 

Cook, James I. -

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2001, at Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio for James I. Cook of Rock Port, Missouri, formerly of Tarkio. Pastor J.N. Sellmeyer officiated. Inurnment was made in Home Cemetery in Tarkio. Military flag folding rites were conducted under the auspices of the Allen Schiffern American Legion Post #199 of Tarkio.
James I. Cook, 77, passed away Friday, February 9, 2001, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy D. and Donna Cook, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was born in the Homer district east of Tarkio, Missouri, on May 14, 1923, the son of James I. and Maude Elizabeth (Fellows) Cook. Jim was one of five children. He attended grades first through eighth in the Homer School, a one room schoolhouse, and then Tarkio High School for two years. He completed his high school years at the St. John's Military Academy in Salina, Kansas.

In 1943, Jim was united in marriage to Ann Z. Smith. They became the parents of four children, Jimmy, Lynda, Curtis and Blaine. After their marriage, Jim entered the United States Army and served his country during World War II. Following his honorable discharge from the army, he attended Tarkio College for two years and then became a heavy equipment operator, building roads during the 1940's and 1950?s in California and Missouri. Jim and Ann were later divorced.
In 1958, Jim was appointed and then elected as Atchison County Engineer and Surveyor, serving the county until 1964. He then resigned and returned to commercial construction of roads as an equipment operator. Jim moved to Florida in 1971 and worked as a heavy equipment operator building roads in Palm Beach County, Florida. During 1978, he assisted his son, Jimmy, in setting up Palm Beach Avionics, an aircraft electronics v business which has remained a successful business.
Jim was united in marriage to Laura Lincoln in 1988 in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1990, they moved to Rock Port, Missouri, where he assisted in the construction of the new track and field for the Rock Port Schools. From that time to the present, Jim enjoyed doing the work he really loved, operating motor graders, moving dirt and working on roads in Atchison County for the Tarkio Special Road District, in addition to doing contract bridge inspection in the county. After his second wife, Laura, died, Jim spent his winter months living at the Lion Country Safari in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy D. and Donna Cook, Palm Beach Gardens; son and daughter-in-law, Curtis R. and Cindy Cook, Beach Mountain, North Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Gene Jones, Houston, Texas; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Mary Kay and Dennis Martinie, Overland Park, Kansas; stepdaughter, Barbara Lincoln, of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Shirley Cook, Rock Port; nine grandchildren, Travis Cook, Danielle Cook Pettifor, Cayla Cook Maraist, Scott Cook, Carrie Cook, Angie Jones, Chris Jones, Ryan Cook and Troy Cook; three stepgrandchildren, Bill Martinie, Kelly Monroe and Justin Lincoln; five great-grandchildren, Jake, Jesse and Jace Pettifor, Travis Blaine Cook and Jessica Renee Cook; three stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Madaline Gilliam, Fairfax, Missouri, and Marjorie Postlewait and husband, Jim, of Tarkio, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and second wife, Laura, Jim was preceded in death by son, Blaine; sisters, Evelyn Esser and Jean Esser; and great-granddaughter, Rachael Cook. Memorials may be directed to the "Friends of the Library" for the Atchison County Library, Rock Port.



 

Cottrell, Bill -

Graveside services and burial were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2001, at the Goshen Cemetery, west of Princeton, MO, for Bill Cottrell of Cainsville, MO. Reverend Frank Aldrich officiated. Services were under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service of Princeton.
Virgil William "Bill" Cottrell, Jr., 53, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2001, at his home southeast of Cainsville. He was born February 27, 1947, in Bethany, MO, to Virgil William "Dick" and Mildred Fern (Oswalt) Cottrell.

Bill was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Lowry on October 8, 1967. Except for fouryears when Bill lived in Trenton, Mo., he has been a lifelong resident of Mercer County, and was a 1965 graduate of Mt Moriah High School. He was a farmer, and since 1994, had also been employed by Con-Agra Frozen Foods of Milan, MO. Bill was baptized into the Christian faith through the Lighthouse Faith Christian Church of Princeton.
Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home; daughter, Lynda Cowan, and son-in-law, Bradshaw, of Tarkio; and by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick Cottrell in 1982 and Mildred Cottrell in 1985.

Cox, Virginia A. "Ginny" Heifner -

Virginia A. “Ginny” (Heifner) Cox was born in Maryville, Missouri on July 24, 1930, one of three children of Lloyd Bryan and Alma Fern (Campbell) Heifner.

Ginny graduated from Maryville High School and later Christian College, Columbia, Missouri. She was also an alumnus of the University of Missouri.

In 1952 she married Hardin C. Cox in Maryville, and they became parents of two sons.

Ginny helped run the Cox and Sons Insurance Agency for many years. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Rock Port, where she served as president of the church board several times. She also served on the former Tarkio College Board of Directors. She was a “campaigner extraordinaire” for her husbands numerous political campaigns.

Ginny passed away on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 at an Omaha, Nebraska hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lowell “Buddy” Heifner; and sister, Frances Foster.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Hardin, of their Rock Port home; their sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Rita of McLean, Virginia and Mark and Sandra of Olathe, Kansas; six grandchildren, Eve, Hardie, Beth, and Charlie Cox, Ryan MacFarlane, and Erin and her husband Jeisun Lawson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John Henry and Claire Cox of Kansas City; and nieces and nephews, Richard Foster, and John, Jim and Fran Cox.

Services were held on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Rock Port. Following the service, the family greeted friends at a reception at the Rock Port Memorial Building. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church, Rock Port.

 

Daniels, Margaret E. Hawes Shineman

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Au­gust 24, 2002, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Tarkio, Missouri, for Margaret E. (Shineman) Daniels, Maryville, Missouri. Father Reginald Saunders O.S.B. officiated. Interment was made in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax, under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax.
Margaret E. Daniels, age 81, passed away on August 21, 2002, at the Village Care Center in Maryville, Missouri. She was born on October 5,1920, to Jack and Mary Hawes of Stanberry, Missouri. She was the oldest of five children.
She married William L.Shineman and with Margaret's daughter, Suzanne FitzGerald, and Bill's four children, Bill, Jr., Shirley, Gabe and Truby, they became a family in Fairfax, Missouri. To this union were born Donald, JoBeth, Kathy and Tonya.
Margaret was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church of Tarkio, Missouri. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she served her church as a religion teacher and was a member of the St. Ann's Altar Society.

In 1966, Margaret began work for N.L. Cleveland, DDS. In 1970, her husband, Bill, passed away. Margaret continued to work as a dental assistant until 1975 when she married Roger Daniels and moved to Woodriver, Illinois.

They resided there until Roger's death in 1989 at which time Margaret returned to Fairfax to live. She moved to Maryville in 1997.
She is survived by eight children, Bill Shineman, Jr., Allyn, Washington, Gabe Shineman, Stanberry, Truby Shineman, Sumner, Washington, Donald Shineman, Savannah, Missouri, Suzanne FitzGerald, Kansas City, Missouri, JoBeth Schaeffer, St. Joseph, Missouri, Kathy Howell, Maryville, and Tonya Oswald, Fairfax; 27 grand­children; many loving great­grandchildren; brother, Gene Hawes, Charleston, South Carolina; and Aunt Frances Gunter, Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Morgan, three grandchildren and two brothers, Donald and Joe Hawes.

 

Erdman, Stephanie Pierce -

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2002, at the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port, Missouri, for Stephanie Rose Erdman, Rock Port. Pastor Allan Bash officiated. Interment was made in Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port, Services were under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel in Rock Port.
Stephanie Erdman, age 43, was born on January 13, 1959, in Duluth, MN, the daughter of Stephen and Dee (Gibson) Pierce. Stephanie passed away on Monday, August 26, 2002, at University Hospital, Omaha, NE.
Stephanie attended school in Springfield, IL. In 1993, she graduated from Peru State College, Peru, NE, with a degree in Elementary Education.
Stephanie was married to Bruce Ireland. They later divorced.
On October 26, 1985, Stephanie was united in marriage to Jay Erdman in Rock Port. She was employed as a health educator in Nodaway County and throughout northwest Missouri. Stephanie was member of the Nu Omicron Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Rock Port, and was serving as a board member for the Heartland Recreation Center, Tarkio, MO. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Rock Port. Stephanie was very active in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the Great American Smoke Out, and the Community 2000 project. She enjoyed walking, reading, swimming, boating, crafts and memory books. Stephanie loved her animals and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children.
Survivors include Stephanie's husband, Jay, and her two sons, Jayson and Jacob Erdman, all of the home; two daughters, April Ireland, St. Joseph, MO, and Brooke Learner and husband, Matt, Hamilton, MO; parents, Stephen and Dee Pierce, St. Joseph; brothers, Mike and Matt Pierce, both of St. Joseph, Bryan Pierce, Des Moines, IA, and Steve Pierce and wife, Nicole, Kan­sas City, MO; mother-in-law, Marilyn Erdman, Rock Port; sister-in-law, Lee Ann and Larry Boyle, Beaver Lake, NE; and grandmother, Charlene Taylor, Rock Port.

Farley, Gladys French Davis -

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Friday, March 5, 2004, at the Fairfax Baptist Church, Fairfax, Missouri, for Gladys Farley, Fairfax. Pastor Steve Suttill officiated. Interment was made in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax. Services were under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, Missouri.
Gladys O. (French) "Davis" Farley, age 93, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Dean Wiley, Fairfax. She was born on August 28,1910, to Robert and Sylvia French in Competition, Missouri.
Gladys was united in marriage to Richard W. Davis in 1924. To this union eight children were born. Richard died in 1975. She married Elbert Farley in 1980, he died in 1989.
Gladys worked at the Fairfax Manufacturing Company for approximately 28 years and retired from The Walnut Shop after working there about 11 years. She loved to raise a garden and flowers. Gladys loved to take care of her family and was very faithful to her Lord Jesus Christ and her church family.
Gladys is survived by four daughters, Lois Wiley, Fairfax, Lillie Kinman, Kathleen Nelson, both of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Ruth Blacketer, Tarkio, Missouri; two sons, Richard E. Davis, Lawson, Missouri, and Larry Davis, St. Joseph, Missouri; 36 grandchildren; and 42 great­grandchildren.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Richard Davis and Elbert Farley; daughter, Evelyn Hays; son, Charlie Davis; four grandchildren; six brothers; and two sisters. Memorials may be directed to the Fairfax Baptist Church, Fairfax, Missouri.

 

Farmer, Marilyn Kay Stephens-

A memorial celebration in memory of Marilyn Kay Farmer of Rock Port, Missouri, was held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2001, at the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port. Pastor David Ebersole officiated. A pri­vate family inurnment will be held at a later date. Services were under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel of Rock Port.
Marilyn Kay (Stephens) Farmer, age 58, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. She was born on February 14,1943, the daughter of Johnnie and Thelma (Dull) Stephens. Her talents and love of music were apparent early in her life. She graduated from high school in Osceola, Missouri, in 1961. She excelled, earning number "I" ratings in district and state music contests, both vocal and instrumental. She attended the University Of Missouri (MU) in Columbia her freshman year. Her talents won her a spot on the Marching Mizzou Band.
During the summer of 1962, she and her husband, Bill, were married after dating a couple of months. Although both were preenrolled at MU, they both transferred to Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. Upon graduating in 1965, Marilyn taught music at Logan-Rogersville School. In 1966, when Bill entered the United States Army, Marilyn taught music at Hardin, Missouri. In 1967, Marilyn joined Bill at Fort Knox, Kentucky. They soon were transferred to Fort Walters in Mineral Wells, Texas.
Upon completion of Bill's primary helicopter training, the Farmers moved to Fort Rucker, Alabama. When Bill completed his helicopter training, they transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia. Their first child, William Christopher (W.C.) Farmer, was born November 16, 1968, at Fort Benning.
In April of 1969, Marilyn and newborn son, W.C, moved back to Osceola while Bill was on orders for Vietnam. In the fall of 1969, Marilyn began teaching French in Osceola. In September of 1969, upon learning that Bill had been shot down in Vietnam, she hastened to join him at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. Her tender love and care were important factors in his recovery. Second son, Michael Philip Farmer, was born at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center on February 27, 1971.
In May of 1972, they moved to Springfield. Marilyn and Bill both enrolled in the Guidance and Counseling Graduate Program. Marilyn graduated in 1977 with a Master's Degree in Elementary Counseling with an emphasis in Play Therapy. Marilyn excelled at Play Therapy, studying at both North Texas University and the University of Missouri in Kansas City. She lacked only one course of completing her Specialist's Degree in Play Therapy. Marilyn received the Missouri Play Therapist of the Year Award in 2000 and held the office of President for the Missouri Association of Play Therapy.
Marilyn and Bill purchased the St. Clair County Courier and Appleton City Journal in 1978. They co-published these publications until they were sold in 1982. During this time, Marilyn was counselor and music teacher at Lakeland Public Schools in Lowry City, Missouri. The Farmers purchased the Atchison County Mail in 1984 and have continued co-publishing the newspaper with their two sons.
Marilyn continued her studies and teaching of music and counseling at West Nodaway Elementary School for 16 years. As well as working with elementary students, she also taught graduate school classes for Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. This last year she accepted a job with the Nebraska City, Nebraska, Public Schools as a counselor, where she truly enjoyed the professionalism and support she received.
Marilyn was a devoted mother, grandmother and wife. She was a dedicated and proud "Grammy" to her two grandchildren, Chandler, age five, and Kaleigh, age three.
Marilyn was both artistic and a perfectionist, engaging in several different forms of artistic pursuits, as well as knitting, sewing, home design, painting, quilting, ceramics, porcelains, and canning. She was a true homemaker who loved and excelled at all aspects of family life. In addition to her personal hobbies, Marilyn was involved in several activities and organiza­tions, including: Missouri Press Association, National Newspaper Association, Northwest Missouri Newspaper Association, choir, P.E.O., Music Sorority, C.T.A., MSTA, MSCA, MAPT, the American Legion Auxiliary, and PI LAMBDA THETA scholastic sorority, and a member of the First Lutheran Church of Rock Port.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, William W. Farmer, of the home in Rock Port; her father, Johnnie Stephens, of Dexter, Missouri; two sons, W.C. and wife, Shauna (Ottmann) Farmer, and Michael P. Farmer, all of Rock Port; two grandchildren, William Chandler and Kaleigh Diane Farmer, Rock Port; one brother, John Stephens, Jr., and sister-in-law, Shirley, Dexter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma (Dull) Stephens. Memorials may be directed to the Marilyn Farmer Memorial Scholarship Fund or the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port.


 

Flanagan, Ann Marie -

Graveside and burial services were held Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax, Missouri, at 1:30 p.m. for Ann Marie Flanagan of Shenandoah, Iowa, formerly of Fairfax. Services were conducted by Pastor Steve Suttill. Services were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio, Missouri.
Ann Marie Flanagan, daughter of Worley H. and Hazel L. (Arnold) Flanagan, was born April 7, 1943, in Maryville, Missouri. She lived with her family in the Fairfax, Missouri, community where she attended school, graduating from Fairfax High School in 1962. For many years, she worked in the Fairfax Laundry until its closing.
In the late 1970's, Ann Marie moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, where she had resided to the present time. Ann Marie passed away, following a lengthy illness, on February 3, 2005, at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 61 years.
Ann Marie is survived by her brother, Larry Flanagan of Craig, Missouri, and a host of caring friends and neighbors. Preceding her in death were her parents, Worley and Hazel. Memorials may be directed to the English Grove Cemetery Association.


Fletcher, Delores Bowen - Delores Fletcher, the daughter of H.O. and Lucille Velour (Green) Bowen, was born July 23, 1936, in Corning, Missouri. She attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1954.

On December 24, 1954, Delores was united in marriage to Eugene T. Fletcher. They made their home in the Atchison County, Missouri, area and became the parents of four children, Jeannie, Cathy, Jackie and Scott. They later divorced.

Delores was a devoted mother, staying home to raise and care for her four children. She was also employed answering phones for the Tarkio Police Department, Warner Cable Company and Davis Funeral Home. For a short time, Delores worked for Ted Harmon Insurance in Rock Port.

Delores was a member of the Tarkio Garden Club and attended Tarkio Baptist and Tarkio Presbyterian Churches. She enjoyed embroidering shirts and samplers for her family. Delores was very knowledgeable about jewelry and precious stones and would accessorize from her collection. She was a positive person that was well cared for by Pleasant View Nursing Home and loved her Pleasant View family. Delores passed away Friday, October 7, 2016, at Community Hospital- Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 80.

Delores was preceded in death by parents, H.O. and Dorothy Bowen and Lucille (Green) Watton; grandson, Sam Fletcher; and son-in-law, Robert Muller. Survivors include four children, Jeannie Muller, Smithville, Missouri, Cathy Dennis and husband, Boyd, Jackie Aeschliman and husband, Alan, and Scott Fletcher and wife, Debbie, all of Tarkio, Missouri; six grandchildren, Laura Larriva, Lacey McIsaac, Lindsey Stephens, Corey Whitaker, Andrew Aeschliman and Seth Fletcher; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Gabriel, Eli, Camille, John, Clare, Ruby and Angelina; sister, Lillian McGuire, Bermingham, Alabama; friend, Ernest Greene, Rock Port; and numerous cousins.

Fuller, Betty Elaine Taylor -

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 1, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corning, Missouri, for Betty Fuller, St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Corning and Craig, Missouri. Rev. J.N. Sellmeyer and Rev. James Lowmaster officiated. Interment was made in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
Betty Elaine (Taylor) Fuller, 70, St. Joseph, Missouri, died Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Betty was born November 18, 1935, in Fillmore, Missouri. She resided most of her life in Corning and Craig, Missouri. She graduated from Craig High School. She worked in food service at the Kansas City School District and Fairfax Hospital. She also worked as Postmaster in Corning. Betty was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Corning.
Betty married George Fuller on June 7, 1953. He survives of the home. She was preceded in death by two children, Geraldine and Diane; parents, Ellis and Jessie; and one brother, Virgil Taylor. Survivors include sister, Emilie Lucas, and brother, Donald Taylor, St. Joseph; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to St John's Lutheran Church, Corning, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

 

Gnuse, Beverly Thomson -

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 2, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church in Effingham, Illinois, for Beverly Gnuse, Altamont, Illinois. Interment was made in Union Cemetery, Altamont, under the direction of Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont.
Beverly Gnuse, age 67, passed away Thursday evening, August 29, 2002, at her home in Altamont. She was born on May 7,1935, in Fairfax, Missouri, to David Eugene and Margaret (Sillers) Thomson.
On January 3, 1959, she was married to Sam Gnuse in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a retired first and fourth grade teacher from the Altamont Community School District. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Effingham, Illinois, and the Education Association and National Education Association. She served on the board of directors of Altamont Public Library for 12 years and served on the board of directors of the First National Bank of Altamont for 18 years. She was also a member of the Altamont Garden Club.

Survivors include her husband, Sam; a son, Steven Gnuse and his wife, Linda, of Springfield, Illinois; daughters, Julie Tappendorf and husband, Dan of Champaign, Illinois, and Jayne Jenks and husband, Mark, of Sullivan, Wisconsin; her father and step mother, Eugene and Mildred Thomson, Fairfax; sister, Marjorie Umbarger, Fairfax; and 10 grandchildren.

Irvine, Francis "Spud" -

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 28,2004, at the Fairfax Christian Church for Francis "Spud" Irvine, Fairfax. Rev. Allan Bash officiated. Interment was made in English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax, under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax.
Francis Williard "Spud" Irvine, 92, of Fairfax, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at the Fairfax Community Hospital. Francis, the son of Hamilton Armstrong and Maude Mae (McElroy) Irvine, was born on November 4, 1911, in the Daleview District. He received his education in the Wolfe and Daleview communities, graduating from Daleview High School. He spent most of his adult life as a carpenter.
On May 5, 1937, Francis married Mary Lorene, daughter of Grover Cleveland and Nora (Bunny) Dixon. To them a daughter, Mary Francis, and a son, Robert Nelson, were born.

His wife, Lorene, preceded him in death on March 30, 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Mary F. Weedin, Columbia, Missouri; a son, Robert Nelson, Canon City, Colorado; three grandchildren, Derek and Shannon Irvine, Canon City, and Mary Beth Kline, Columbia; and one great-grandchild, Dylan Kline, Columbia. Additional survivors include brothers, Bob Irvine, Rock Port, Missouri, and Jim Irvine, Fairfax; sisters, Helen Knepper, Perry, Iowa, and Mary Botkin, Kirksville, Missouri; as well as many nieces and nephews. Jensen, Dorothea Pauline Mann -

Dorothea (Dorothy) Pauline Mann Jensen, 93, of the Beverly Healthcare Center in Maryville, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2006.
Dorothy, daughter of Charles and Cleota Chilton Mann was born near Stanberry, Missouri, on March 15, 1913 and was raised near the Alanthus Grove and Stanberry area. She was a graduate of Stanberry High School and attended Northwest Teachers College in Maryville where she received her teaching certificate. Dorothy taught at the McGuire School between Albany and Stanberry. She was later an employee of Vogt's Poultry and Henderson's Drug Store in Stanberry.
Dorothy married Merriett (Pat) Jensen in Clyde, Missouri, on August 31, 1937. They lived in the Kansas City area, locations in Montana and Wyoming and some winters in Arizona, but mostly in and around the Stanberry and Clyde areas. Pat preceded her in death on May 7, 1992. Dorothy was a member of the St. Peters Catholic Church in Stanberry. Her strong faith in God sustained her throughout her life. She enjoyed Christian and gospel music.
Dorothy ("Aunt Dot") was noted for her love of children and especially her nieces and nephews and neighbor children over the years. Her exceptional array of knowledgeable subject matters, and her extraordinary memory offered many stories and remembrances from the past, along with maintaining her ability to stay abreast of national and local news up to her last few days.
She is survived by a niece and nephew who were her caregivers for many years, Marilyn and Bob Alldredge of Fairfax, and their family, Lisa and Dr. Jim Vayda, Emily & Lily, Wichita, Kansas and Marci and Mike Mulloy, Shawnee Mission, Kansas; a godchild, Phillip Jensen, Stanberry; Jerene Ann Creech and husband Norman, Hendersonville, North Carolina and their family; one brother-in-law, Martin Jensen, Jr, and wife Teresa of Stanberry; sisters-in-law: Martena Jensen Swinford, Margeretha Jensen Talmadge, Marie Jensen Schwebach , Gertrude Jensen all of Stanberry; Madonna Jensen Strueby of Guilford, Missouri; and Marcella Jensen O'Bannon of Northglenn, Colorado; several other nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
Services were held Monday morning, August 21, at St. Peters Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Petsche officiating. A prayer service was held the evening before at the Roberson-Polley Funeral Chapel in Stanberry. Memorials are directed to St. Peters Church, Stanberry.


Jochim, A. Junior - Albert Junior Jochim, the son of Albert Sheldon and Mabel Berniece (Haughton) Jochim was born May 22, 1930, in Watson, Missouri. Junior or “Honk” as he was affectionately known graduated from Watson High School in 1949.

In 1951, Junior enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during the Korean War. He served on the destroyer, U.S.S. Brown as a Gunners Mate 3rd class. This ship sailed from the States to Japan and back every six months.

On March 28, 1969, Junior was united in marriage to Sue Bailey at his parents’ home in Watson. They made their home on the Watson bottom, raised their two sons Jeff and Alan and farmed for over 35 years. In 2004 Junior and Sue moved to Platte City, Missouri, to live closer to their son Jeff and his family.

Junior was thankful to be a farmer and loved working the Watson soil and raising cattle. He spent many hours in a tractor with his sons, which created precious memories still held by them today. He also enjoyed playing golf and traveling with Sue. Honk was a man full of joy and always had a smile on his face. He passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Hillview Nursing and Rehabilitation, Platte City, at the age of 86.

Junior was past Commander and member of the Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port. A member of the Rock Port Golf and Country Club, the Shiloh Springs Golf Club, Platte City and former member of the Rock Port Lion’s Club. He formerly served on the Atchison County Soil and Water Conservation District Board, High Creek Drainage Ditch Board, Atchison County COOP Board and as a Watson Volunteer Fireman.

Besides his parents, Junior was preceded in death by brother, Donald D. Jochim, sisters-in-law, Joan and Mary Ellen Jochim, nephew, David Jochim and two nieces, Beth Shannahan and Stacey Fritz. Survivors include his wife, Sue Jochim, Platte City; sons, Jeffery Jochim and his wife, Dawn, Platte City, and Alan Jochim and his wife, Michelle, Denham Springs, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Emily Rae Anne (Adam) Morrison, Emma Elizabeth and Mason Blake Jochim; two brothers, James Everett and his wife, Jean, Rock Port, and Marvin Eugene Jochim, Windsor, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Aileen B. (Wright) Keeling, age 88, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2001, at her home. She was born in Craig, on September 8, 1912.
Mrs. Keeling and her husband operated the Texaco Station and Keeling Cafe in Craig before moving to Englewood, Colorado, where they lived for 20 years. Upon returning, they moved to Fairfax.
Mrs. Keeling was a graduate of Craig High School in Craig, and a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church, Fairfax.
Mrs. Keeling was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Keeling; son, James L. on October 1, 2000; her parents, Frank and Lula Pebley Wright; two brothers, Wayne and Thomas Wright; one sister, Frances Home; and son-in-law, Jimmie O. Fisher.

Kottman, Harold -

Mr. Harold William "Coach Kottie" Kottman, age 82, passed away in Keytesville, Florida on November 30, 2004. He was born in Forest Green, Missouri, on August 22,1922, to Ortwin and Ella (Borgman) Kottman.
After graduation from college in 1946, he joined the Boston Celtics for the team's first season. In 1949, he accepted a coaching job in Glasgow, Missouri. In 1950, he married Sue Hess.
Harold taught in Centralia and Center, Missouri. In 1962, he became superintendent of schools in Hale, Missouri, and later Hopkins, Missouri, and then later in Fairfax for 11 years. He retired in 1979. Harold and Sue had five children. Sue died in January 1970, in Fairfax. In April 1980, he married Kay Vance.
Survivors are his wife, Kay; and children, Jennifer Johnson, 39785 Gentry-Nodaway Road, Stanberry, MO 64489-9206, Hal Kottman, P.O. Box 3623, Lantana, FL 33465, Sara Kottman, 1848 South Virginia Avenue, Springfield, MO 65807, Kathy Cartwright, 7017 SE Riverside Terrace, St. Joseph, MO 64507, and Jeff Kottman, 4401 Bright Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32303; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Evelyn Warren and Alice Kottman; and a brother, Leandrus Kottman. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Glasgow, Missouri.

 

Long, Robert "Bob" -

Memorial Services for Robert "Bob" Long, 85, of Davenport, Iowa were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday,
December 27 at Newcomb Presbyterian Church, Davenport. Family received friends on Saturday from
10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Mo.   
Robert Long was born on January 13, 1929 in Lenox, Iowa, the son of Hugh Roy and Lela (Tully) Long. He married Barbara Hills on October 25, 1951 in Tarkio, Mo. He had served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. He also was able to take part in the Honor Flight.
Robert attended the Tarkio College where he received a bachelor's degree in Music Education, a Master's degree in Music Education at George Peabody College and a Doctorate Studies in Media at the University of Iowa. Robert taught music, worked as a media consultant for the Mississippi Education Agency. He also worked at the University Of Wisconsin College Of Nursing.  
He was a member of Newcomb Presbyterian Church, Davenport, where he served as Deacon, Elder and Music Director, he also was a member of the Lion's Club, C.A.S.I, Davenport Area Unit Retiree! School Personal Association (DARSPA), and Phi Delta Kappa.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Davenport; son, John (Becky) Long of Davenport; daughter, Andrea Cartwright of Rock Island; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and sister, Mary Lou Sunderwith-Connor of Old Greenwich, CT.

Martin, Selma M. Sharp Quimby -

Selma M. Martin, 92, Mound City, died Monday, May 15,1995, at Tiffany Heights nursing home.
Mrs. Martin was born Sept. 20, 1902, in rural Holt County to William and Florence Kite Sharp. A homemaker, she lived most of her life in Craig, before moving to Tiffany Heights in 1985.
She married Homer Quimby June 19,1917. He died in 1931. She married Frank Martin June 17, 1933. He died in 1982.
She was a member of the Christian Church, Royal Neighbors of America and the Rebekah Lodge, all of Craig.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Glen Quimby; a daughter, Dorothy Quimby; a step­son, Dale A Martin; a stepdaughter, Ruth Bradley; two sisters, Eva Hopkins and Julia Huntsucker; and two brothers, Harold and Clarence Sharp.
Survivors include three sons, Warren Quimby, Bolckow, Floyd Quimby, Craig, and Gerald Martin, Franklin, Wis., a daughter, Fern Root, Craig; a stepdaughter, Roberta O'Shel, Emporia, Kan.; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 18, at the Christian Church, Craig. The Rev. Mike Quimby will officiated.
Burial was in the LO.O.F. Cemetery, Craig.
Active and honorary pallbearers were David Duane Nowling, Kenton Nowling, Glen Dale Nowling, Chris Quimby, Kevin Quimby, Kevin Wilson, Gary Martin and Jerry Sollars.

Miller, Tom L. -

Tom L. Miller, son of Jim Miller and Bertha Jane (Harmon) Miller was born near Fargo, Nebr. on Oct 4,1909. Mr. Miller attended rural schools in both Nebraska and Holt County Missouri.
On July 30,1934 he was united in marriage to Leora Foster of Craig. Mr. Miller spent his entire life farming in the Langdon and Craig, Missouri areas. He retired in 1976.
Mr. Miller passed away on June 1, 1995 at Community Care Center in Tarkio at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 27 days.
He is survived by his wife Leora of Craig; by one daughter Twilla Wallace of Memphis, Tennessee; by two sons, Keith Miller of Quitman, Arkansas and Thomas L. Miller of Fairfax, Missouri; by 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by 6 sisters; Josie Nissen, Ida Thompson, Cora Thompson, Carrie Foster, Clara Morehouse, Rose Minge and by 2 brothers; Howard Miller and Fred Miller.

Funeral services were held at the Christian Church in Craig Saturday afternoon, June 3, conducted by Pastor Charlie Cates of Tarkio, Interment was in Tharp Cemetery, Craig.

Mrs. Mitchell was born in Red Oak, Iowa, on November 29, 1921. She was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints and Milton Ladies Club, Corning, Iowa.

Moore, Jeanie Rae Hawkins - Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2002, at the Christian Church in Fairfax for Jeanie Rae Moore, Fairfax. Rev. Allan Bash and Rev. H.C. Pennel officiated. Interment was made at Burr Oak Cemetery in Skidmore, Missouri, under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax.
Jeanie Rae Hawkins Moore, age 49, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2002, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska. She was born on July 11, 1953, at the Fairfax Community Hospital. She was the daughter of Phyllis Hawkins, Fairfax, and Donald Hawkins, Barnard, Missouri.
She spent almost her entire life in the Fairfax area. She attended Daleview country school for one year and then attended Fairfax School for 11 years. Jeanie was a member of the 1971 graduat­ing class. She was baptized at the Fairfax Christian Church where she was still an active member and teacher.
After graduation, she attended Denver Floral School, Denver, Colorado, where she received her degree in floral arranging. After working in several flower shops she decided to pursue a career in early childhood development. She attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri, where she received a degree in early childhood education. Jeanie taught preschool in Mound City, Missouri, and Fairfax.
On August 13, 1983, Jeanie was married to Harold William Moore, Nemaha, Nebraska, at the Fairfax Christian Church. They made their home on the farm near Nemaha where they lived for two years. They then moved into the country near Fairfax where they have continued to live for nearly 17 years. Their daughter, Lacy, was born in 1985, and son, Luke, was born in 1989.

Jeanie later worked as a substitute teacher in the Craig, Missouri, and Fairfax schools.
Jeanie was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. Her children and family were first and foremost in her life. She always put their needs ahead of everything else in her daily life. She was a talented seamstress and photographer. She made many memory bears for many people. She was an active club and county 4-H leader, and was involved in lots of church and school activities. Jeanie always loved her cows and calves, flower gardens and vegetable garden, and various pets ranging from cats and dogs to fish. She loved to take flowers from her gardens and make arrangements.
Jeanie was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Cline and Hazel Hawkins, and maternal grandparents, Harry and Ruby Bunney, all of Fairfax, Missouri.

Survivors include husband, Harold, and children, Lacy and Luke, Fairfax; mother, Phyllis Hawkins, Fairfax; father, Donald Hawkins, Barnard; brothers, Greg Hawkins, Fairfax, and Robert Hawkins, Tarkio, Missouri; father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Doris Moore, Sun City, Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Jerri Moore, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Nicky Herner, Hanover Park, Illinois; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many friends. Morton, Jerrie Ann Strough Thompson -

Jerrie Ann, daughter of Melvin and Joyce (Lewis) Strough was born in Fairfax, Mo. on Sept. 6, 1961. She grew up on the family farm east of Fairfax and attended school at Fairfax, where she graduated in the class of 1979. While in high school, Jerrie was an active participant in athletics. She still holds several school track records. Jerrie was also the Salutatorian of her high school graduating class.
After a lengthy illness, Jerrie passed away on June 21, 1995 at the home of her parents. She was 33 years, 9 months and 15 days of age at the time of her death.
Jerrie is survived by her father and mother, Melvin and Joyce Strough of Skidmore; by her husband, Calvin Morton of the home in Fairfax; by 2 daughters by a previous marriage, Tayne and Tauni Thompson; by her sister, Gail Stoner of Maryville; and by her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Eathel Lewis of Fairfax.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning, June 24 at the Fairfax Baptist Church with Rev. Wes Thrush in charge. Interment was in English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax. Mrs. Dale Grubb was in charge of music.
Pallbearers were Gary Evans, David Dunbar, Chris Strough, Gary Lincoln, Marlin Heflin, Donnie Brandt Honorary pallbearer was Warren Beck.

Parshall, Clara L. Crockett -

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2002, at Price Funeral Home Chapel in Maryville, MO, for Clara L. Crockett Parshall, Burlington Junction, Mo. Zel Fischer of Tarkio, MO, officiated. Interment was made at the Quitman Cemetery, Quitman, MO.
Clara L. Parshall, age 78, was born on January 16, 1924, in Skidmore, MO. She was the daughter of Claude and Letha Newton Crockett. Clara passed away on August 23, 2002, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE.
Clara graduated from Skidmore High School, Skidmore, MO, in 1943. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the LLL Club and the Order of the Eastern Star, all in Quitman.
On May 9, 1943, Clara married Melvin Carroll Parshall in Maryville, MO. Clara and Melvin made their home in Burlington Junction since 1947 to the present. She spent all her life as a homemaker.
Survivors include: Clara's husband, Melvin, of the home; three sons and their wives, Gary and Judy Parshall, Clearmont, MO, Dick Parshall, Burlington Junction, and Roger and Nikki Parshall, Tarkio, MO; three daughters and their husbands, Gloria and Bill Martz, Burlington Junction, Shirley Kay and Rodney Wake, Rock Port, MO, and Kristie and Skeeter Hale, Rock Port, MO; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one brother, Eldon Crockett, Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Beverly Graham, Grandview, MO, and Deanna Bramer, St. Joseph; and nieces and nephews.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Minnie Ross, Irene Young and Roberta Hansen: one brother, Leslie Crockett: and one grandson, Dickie Lynn Parshall. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.

 

Pierce, R. Stephen "Steve" - R. Stephen “Steve” Pierce, 77, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away October 9, 2016. Steve was born March 13, 1939 in Kansas City, MO to Wayne and Elabell Pierce. He was a graduate of North Kansas City High School and served in the US Air Force. On March 25, 1957 he married Deona Lee Gibson and together they raised five children. Steve began his career with IBM where he continued until his retirement. Following retirement Steve and Dee operated Steve and Dee’s Bar and Grill in Rock Port. He then continued his education receiving his degrees in criminal justice, psychology and earning his private pilots license.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Stephanie Rose Erdman. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dee Pierce; sons, Mike, Brian, Steve and wife Nicole and Matt Pierce; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of Villa Ventura, Interim Health Care and Kansas City Hospice for the loving care given to during his brief illness.

A prayer service will be held at 12:00pm Saturday, October 15th at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO, followed by visitation until 2pm. Public viewing will be 11am-1pm Sunday at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, MO followed by graveside services and interment at the Hunter Cemetery. Poppa, Grant Stanley -

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 20, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the St. John's Lutheran Church, : Westboro, Missouri, for Grant Stanley Poppa, Tarkio, Missouri. Pastor Richard Pearson conducted the services. Interment was made in St. John's Cemetery, Westboro. Services were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.

Grant Stanley Poppa, the son of Grant William Henry and Agnes Louise (Voltmer) Poppa, was born February 12, 1940, in Maryville, Missouri. He graduated from Tarkio High School in 1959.    On June 12,1960, Stanley   was united in marriage to Judith Ann Leap at the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, ,   Missouri. They made their home in Tarkio, and have lived there until the present time. Stanley began farming with his father at a very young age. Besides owning and farming his own ground, he also farmed for numerous land owners, some since the mid 1950's. In their early married years and during the off season, Stanley was also employed with Tarkio Pelleting Corporation and Tarkio John Deere.
Stanley was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Westboro, Missouri, and a former Lions Club and Eagles Club member. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and had recently taken the grandkids on short vacations.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home, Tarkio; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Bobbi Poppa, Tarkio; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Rene' and Robert Gonzalez, Branson, Missouri, and Shelley Darlene and Ronald Thomson, Tarkio; five grandchildren, Deyton Thomson, Shayne Gonzalez, Olivia Gonzalez, Kamden Brown, and Brynnan Poppa; one future grandchild; brother, Larry Poppa and his wife, Cheryl, Tarkio; numerous nieces and nephews; and Max, his schnauzer dog.
Besides his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by numerous aunts, uncles, and one great-niece. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church in Westboro, or the American Heart Association.


Root, Fern E. Quimby Nowling -

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2001, at the Christian Fellowship Church in Mound City, Missouri, for Fern E. Root, Craig, Missouri. Rev. Jim Brown officiated. Internment was made in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Craig, under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Craig.
Fern Elaine (Quimby) Root, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. Mrs. Root was born in Hamilton, Kansas, on February 9, 1926, to Homer and Selma (Sharp) Quimby. Her father died September 29,1936. Selma later married Frank Martin.
On January 10, 1941, Mrs. Root married Floyd B. Nowling, at Oregon, Missouri. Later on in life she married Elmer Root. Both have preceded her in death. Mrs. Root owned and operated Fern's Cafe in Craig for over 25 years. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, and became a member of the First Christian Church of Craig on April 5, 1985.
Mrs. Root was preceded in death by her mother, Selma Martin; stepfather, Frank Martin; three brothers, Warren Allen Quimby, Gene Dale Quimby and Floyd Ray Quimby; one sister, Dorothy Imogene Quimby; one stepbrother, Dale Martin; and one stepsister, Ruth Bradley.
Survivors included two sons, David Dean Nowling, Craig, and Glen Dale Nowling, Vacaville, California; one half-brother, Gerald Wayne Martin, Franklin, Wisconsin; one stepsister, Roberta O'Shel, Emporia, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

 

Sever, Robert

Robert I. Sever, 85, passed way Thursday, February 16, 2006, at home under the care of family and Hospice of Suncoast Florida. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb­ruary 20, 2006, at the Moss Fearter Funeral Home in Clearwater, Florida, with burial following at Rousseau Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Richard Jones of Friendship Methodist Church.
Bob joined the Army Air Corp. in 1942, and was stationed state side until 1945 when he was sent to the European theatre to serve until the end of World War II. He was united in marriage to Hazel Fisher of Fairfax, Missouri, in July 1944 in Champaign, Illinois. They met at Chanute Field, Illinois where they were both stationed, she as a WAC.
Bob was an avid boater and fisherman as well as sport enthusiast especially of the Florida University Gators. The Severs lived in Homosassa, Florida, for 26 years in before retiring to Clearwater in 2004 to be near their daughter and family. They are the parents of Gary (deceased 2002), Melinda and husband, David Anderson and Timothy and wife, Nedra Sever, of Cape Coral. Florida. Bob is also survived by seven grandchildren; one great-grand­daughter; brothers, Jackson, Dunedin, Florida, and James, Clearwater; a foster brother, Ralph Herrerra, Tampa, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Stanford, Billy Lee -

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City, MO, for Billy Lee Stanford of Mound City Larry Harbin officiated. Inurnment was made in the Hunter Cemetery in Rock Port, MO, with graveside military rites by members of the Story Hardin American Legion Post #164 of Craig, MO.
Billy Lee Stanford, 58, passed away Friday, March 2, 2001, at Community Hospital Association in Fairfax, MO. He was born March 20, 1942, in Langdon, MO, to Gerald William and LaVerne L. (McQueen) Stanford. Billy graduated from Craig High School. He served with the United States Army in Vietnam. A lifetime resident of northwest Missouri, Billy worked at the Smith Sawmill and as a laborer for area farmers. For the past several years, he had lived in Mound City.
Billy was a member of the Story Hardin American Legion Post #164, Craig. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fish­ing.
Survivors include Billy's sisters, Wilma Bradley, Tarkio, Geraldine "Geri" Duren, Rock Port, and Connie Stanford, St. Joseph, MO; his brother-in-law, Steve Duren, Rock Port; and nieces and nephews, Rhonda Hunziger, Patricia Hall, Barbara Andrew, Cindy Brissell, Lori Bradley, Tracy Barker, Phyllis Jones, Ronald "Bub" Bradley, Rick Bradley and Willie Bradley.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; an uncle, Tom Sanford; and a nephew, Leslie Bradley. Memorials are requested to the American Diabetes Association.


Stevenson, David -

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2001, at Tarkio Home Cemetery in Tarkio, Missouri, for David Gelvin Stevenson of Columbia, Missouri. Reverend William O. Yates officiated. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday,, February 19, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Columbia with Bishop Doug Moore officiating. Services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., in Columbia.
David Gelvin Stevenson, age 15, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2001, at University Hospital in Columbia. He was born November 6, 1985, in Columbia to Clydia Joyce (Smith) and Mark Milam Stevenson. He was a student at West Junior High School in Columbia. He played soccer in the Columbia Parks and Recreation League and was a certified scuba diver. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and of Boy Scout Troop 233.
Survivors include: David's parents of Columbia; five siblings, Nancy Ellen Garofalo, Richmond, Virginia, and Rebecca Suzanne Stevenson, George Joseph Stevenson, IV, Bartley Milam Stevenson and Johna-than Mark Stevenson, all of Columbia; and his paternal grand­parents, Mary Ellen (Milam) Stevenson Hackett and Ralph Hackett of Tarkio.
David was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and his paternal grandfather, George Joseph Stevenson, II. Stoner, Lawrence D. "Larry" -

Memorial services were held on Thursday, March 24, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Rock Port, Missouri, for Lawrence D. "Larry" Stoner of Rock Port. The services were conducted by Rev. Eric Anderson and inurnment was held in High Creek Cemetery, Watson, Missouri. Funeral services were under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Lawrence D. "Larry" Stoner, the son of Lewis K. and Margaret (Vyse) Stoner, was born on March 30,1927, in Watson, Missouri, and passed away on March 21, 2005, at Community Hospital in Fairfax, Missouri. Larry attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, and Wentworth Military Academy, Booneville, Missouri, graduating from Rock Port in 1944. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II in the Pacific.
In 1953, Larry was united in marriage to Joyce Thornton and they became the parents of three sons. They were later divorced. Larry had formerly lived in Kansas City and St. Joseph, Missouri. Larry was a gentleman farmer and had sold insurance as an independent agent. He was a member of Ralph Greer American Le­gion Post #49, Rock Port, and the Moila Shrine Temple, St. Joseph. Recently, Larry had volunteered numerous hours to the Atchison County Memorial Building Foundation in the restoration project.
Larry is survived by his three sons, David Stoner and his wife, Carol, McKinney, Texas; Andrew Stoner and his wife, Susan, Stilwell, Kansas, and Matthew Stoner, Rock Port; two grandchildren, Aaron Stoner and Ruthie Stoner, McKinney, Texas; and numerous cousins. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to the Nutrition Center in Rock Port.


Thompson, Delores Imogene Thompson Burroughs- Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29. 2001, at Minter Funeral Chapel. Rock Port, Missouri, for Delores Imogene Thompson. Pastor Phillip W. O'Reilly officiated. Interment was made at Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port, under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Delores Imogene Thompson, Rock Port, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2001, at Pleasant View Care Center in Rock Port. She was born on June 14, 1931, in Rock Port, the daughter of James W. and Beulah M. (Chambers) Thompson. In 1950, she graduated from Rock Port High School in Rock Port and was employed as a receptionist for Dr. Curfman.
Delores was united in marriage to Clair Burroughs at the Rock Port United Methodist Church by Rev. Hauser Winter. For a few years they lived in Creston, Iowa, and then Hamburg, Iowa, where she worked in the high school office staff. They later divorced.
In 1976, Dee made her home in Fairfax, and worked for Community Hospital before moving to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1984. She became a resident of Smithville, Missouri in 1996, and became an active and dedicated member of the River of Life Christian Church of Kansas City. She served faithfully as a church counselor and was a member of the choir. Due to ill health, Dee returned to Rock Port this May. Her sweet and loving spirit will always be remembered by everyone.
Survivors include her mother, Beulah Carter, Maryville, Missouri; one daughter and son-in-law, Claire Renee and Martin Aurora, Omaha, Nebraska; one son and daughter-in-law, Anthony Wayne and Susan Burroughs, Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Michael Burroughs, Amber Galli and Anna Rae Aurora; one sister and brother-in-law Billie J. (Hopper) and Giles Smith, Tarkio, Missouri; two brothers, James L. Thompson, Leavenworth, Kansas, and Jack A. and sister-in-law, Virginia Vernon, Fairfax; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Dee was preceded in death by her father, James W. Thompson, daughter, Angela Rae Burroughs; sister, Armeila Rae Prime; and a grandson, Brandon Price. Memorials may be directed to the Delores Thompson Memorial Fund.

 

Vogler, Robert Earl "Bob" -

Robert "Bob" Earl Vogler, age 83, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012, at his home in Kansas City, Kansas. Bob was born on September 7, 1928, at Fairfax, Missouri, to Earl and Arlene "Inbody" Vogler.
He spent his early life in Atchison County, Mis­souri. He graduated from Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, in 1946, and Tarkio College in 1951.
He served his country in the U.S. Army in 1951. After serving in the Army, he went to Kansas City and worked for Braniff Airways in Kansas City, Fort Worth, Texas, New York City, New York, and then back to Kansas City where he made his home.
Bob married Linda Salazar on July 20, 1967. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include brothers, Dan (Ethel), Fairfax, and Carl (Rosalea), St. Charles, Missouri; sisters, Velma Rose (Richard) Reumann, Tarkio, and Janet (John) Jones, Tyler, Texas; stepchildren, Carl (Cynthia) Eden, Anita (Paul) Ruston, Monica (Harold) Lane, Richard Eden, Jennifer (Donald) Pruden, and Stephen Eden; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Bob was cremated and no formal services are scheduled.

 

White, Donald Schick -

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio for Donald Schick White of Tarkio. Pastors David Wynn and Matthew Teel officiated. Interment was made in Tarkio Home Cemetery in Tarkio under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Tarkio.
Donald Schick White, age 78, passed away at his home in Tarkio on Sunday, June 3, 2001. He was born August 17, 1922, near Tarkio, the son of Leland Stanford and Mary (Schick) White. In 1940, Don graduated from Tarkio High School in Tarkio and attended Tarkio College in Tarkio for two years.
Don entered the United States Army on November 7, 1942 and served his country as a medic overseas during World Wat II in Germany and the Battle of the Bulge. On June 4, 1943 in Paris, Texas, Donald married Carlotta Whitford while he was serving in the Army. After World War II, he received his honorable discharge and they returned to Tarkio to make their home and later farm. In 1947, the first of their five children, Donald, was born. Their second child, Nannette, was born in 1949, followed by Christopher in 1951, Debra Sue in 1954, and Nick in 1960.
The Whites moved into Tarkio in 1968, but Don continued to farm. After his retirement in 1981, he remained active in the farm management. Carlotta passed away February 23, 1985. Don remained at home, but spent his winters in Harlingen, Texas.
Don was a former member of the Christian Church of Fairfax, Missouri, and was a member of the Christian Church of Tarkio at the time of his death. He and Carlotta enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Tangle Foot Square Dance Club of Tarkio. He was a former member and past master of Northwest Lodge #358, A.F. & F.M., of Tarkio; a member of the Moila Shrine Temple and the Scottish Rite Bodies, all of St. Joseph, Missouri; and a member of the Allen Schiffern American Legion Post #199 of Tarkio. Don enjoyed all animals on the farm, especially horses, which he continued to ride until one year ago.
Don is survived by three sons, Donald Whitford White and daughter-in-law, Linda, of Tarkio, Christopher Stanford White, Greeley, Colorado, and Nick Charles White and daughter-in-law, Rhonda, of Tarkio; two daughters,.Carlotta Nannette Stepp and son-in-law. Larry, and Debra Sue Beckman, all of Tarkio; eight grandchildren, Lauren, Ehren, Tony, Bill, Melanie, Claire, Lee and Kristy; and sister-in-law, Corinne Mitchell of Fairfax.

Besides his parents and wife, Carlotta, Don was preceded in death by aunt, Ora Virginia Schick, and son-in-law, Rodney Beckman. Memorials may be directed to the Carlotta White Memorial Scholarship Fund.
