Died - Ignatius S. Mitchell was born in Mason county, Kentucky in January 1798.Married Nancy B. Fowke in 1819, and has resided within sight of his birth place ever since, except the three years at the close of his pilgrimage. Sixty-three years did these two persons spend together in the journey of life. The loneliness of sister Mitchel can better be imagined than described. But the Lord sustain her.

Forty-six years ago Father Mitchell joined the Methodist church, and has lived a faithful devoted christian life ever since. A kind husband and father, a good citizen, he was careful to fulfill every promise he made, so far as he was able. It was a grand rule of his life from which he never varied. Patiently and faithfully did he accomplish the work his Master gave him to do. When his Master called him he was ready. Although the call was sudden, he was not surprised. He came from Brownville, Neb to spend a few days with the family of Lawson Dragoo, of this city, when on the night of March the 1st, he was stricken with paralysis, from which he never recovered. March the 3rd, he entered the rest of the holy. March the 5th, after a short religious service at the residence of Mr Dragoo, by Rev Lake, his remains were taken back to his place of birth for interment. Four children and his devoted wife mourn his departure, but their loss is his gain. May God sustain and comfort them and may they with us meet "where there shall be no more death."

Mr J.R. Ash, formerly a resident of this county, but now of Nebraska, informs us that on Wednesday at about 12 o'clock, Mr Schubert, living about ten miles south of Brownville, Neb., was thrown from his wagon and killed while on his way to that city. The horses were frightened by the whistling of a freight engine, became unmanageble and broke lose from the wagon, dragging Mr Schubert over the end gate completely disemboweling him. The horses ran into the river and were drowned. Two other men were in the wagon at the time, one of which, Mr Schubert's brother, was badly injured and the other escaped with harm.

Wednesday of last week, Isaac Kneer, of Logan, Harrison county, this state, arrived at the Commercial house with his two children, little boys, one about three and the other only ten months old. He said his wife deserted her children and himself when the baby was only three months old and that he had been searching for her ever since. He found her at work in one of out hotels and when he took the children to her and asked her to return to their home with him, she refused point blank. The meeting was in the presence of the landlady and several others, and when the father, with tears in his eyes, begged the mother not to desert her helpless little ones, she, alone, was the only one unmoved. The kind hearted landlady burst into tears and implored her to take care of her children, but all to no purpose, and the unnatural mother let her husband and helpless little ones depart for their cheerless home. What can be said in extenuation for a woman who will deliberately deserted her helpless offspring! This is getting below the brute creation--Hamburg TIMES-REPUBLICAN

Watson - Adam H. and Elbert Good have purchased the hardware store of Mrs M.A. Squier, and the business will be continued in the same house. Mrs Squier will, after settling up her business, return to her parent's home in Ohio and make that her future home....The remains of Chas White arrived here yesterday morning from Eureka Springs, Arkansas, where he died a few days ago from snake bite....

The Last of Earth - Tuesday a week ago, Mr Wm White received a telegram informing him that his brother, Charles White, was dead. He immediately took the cars for Eureka Springs, Arkansas, where his brother and wife had gone in search of health. He returned last Tuesday morning, bringing the remains of his brother for interment. The following are the facts as near as we could ascertain them.

Monday, April 17, Charles White went to get some wood. While gathering it he was bitten on the hand by a cotton mouth snake. He did not fear any evil effects, but the wound becoming painful, went to the nearest drug store for an antidote. All in vain were his efforts, and in six hours after he was dead. His body was embalmed and placed in a metalic coffin to await the wishes of his relatives.

The funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 25th, at the family residences, eight miles north of Rock Port, and were conducted by Rev H.J. LaTour, pastor of the High Creek Baptist Church--of which church the deceased was a consistent member--assisted by Elder Quick, of Rock Port, and Rev Moore, of Watson. The large concourse of friends that gathered to pay the last tribute of respect and affection, born testimony of the esteem in which the deceased was held. He was one of natures noblemen, kind, generous, loving. A kind father, generous friend, loving husband and brother. He leaves a widow, and orphan child, two brothers and two sisters. He was born Nov 21st, 1837. Died, April 17, 1882.

Death of Mrs Alice Hudgens - On Tuesday about noon the sad news was heralded that Mrs Alice Hudgens, nee Shelters, had taken an overdose of morphine and was in a dying condition. All that medical skill and kind friends could do was done but to no purpose. At 2 o'clock her spirit took wings of flight and passed to the realms beyond. The facts as far as we have been to learn are about as follows: Mrs Hudgens had been spending the evening at a neighbors and returned home about 11 o'clock. Her husband came in a little after midnight and as his wife was sleeping soundly, he retired without awaking her. He was aroused near 7 o'clock by the baby crying and he spoke to his wife to wake her. He took her by the arm and then noticed that the sleep was unnatural, breathing hard and the lips purple. He hurried for medical assistance but she was beyond the reach of human aid. On a table in the room was found a bottle containing morphine. It is supposed that Mrs H. only aimed to take sufficient to quiet her nerves, as she was in the habit of taking stimulants for that purpose. An inquest was held that evening but no other facts than those stated above were revealed.

Services were held at the residence by Rev J.H. LaTour and the remains were followed to Green Hill Cemetery by a large concourse of sympathizing friends.

Deceased was the only daughter of Mr and Mrs J.L. Shelters and has resided in this city from early childhood. She leaves a babe only a few months old. The broken-hearted husband has the sympathy of the entire community. But how useless are words when death enters and claims the idol of home.
