Elmwood Cemetery - Ezra Nuckolls, born March 28, 1798 in Louisa Co, Va died May 4, 1857 Lucinda his wife born in Grayson Co, Va Mar 17, 1807 died May 25, 1857

My great-great- great grandfather and grandmother are buried in Rock Port (Ezra and Lucinda Hale Nuckolls). As such, I am interested in history of the area. I was wondering if you have a short write-up on the early history of the area (1840’s and 1850’s).

Also I am interested in Hamburg, Iowa history. When was it first settled? Who developed it? Rosemond Nuckolls, my great- great aunt married Henry Borchers on June 12, 1851. I was wondering where this marriage took place?

My great-great grandfather, Columbus (nicknames Lum or Lumis) Nuckolls came west with the family and supposedly helped survey land in Hamburg with a German fellow. He used this knowledge along with his families’ knowledge on promoting land to help develop Glenwood, Iowa (where he opened a store in 1853, married Leah Crouch, and my great grandfather was born in 1857) and Plattsmouth, NE (where he was a member of the Plattsmouth Nebraska Town Company.

Anyway, would appreciate any interesting history that you can pass along. For your project, I am attaching a picture I took of Ezra and Lucinda Nuckolls’ grave stone in the Rock Port, MO cemetery. Ezra passed away May 4, 1857 and Lucinda passed away May 25, 1857. Thanks, Charles Nuckolls 5223 Post House Lane Birmingham, AL 35242 Cnuckolls5223@charter.net
